Description of the walk

Park in the car park after the Maison Forestière Saint-Louis, located on Impasse Saint-Louis in Pujaudran.

(S/E) Leave the car park behind you and take the central path on the right. Continue until you reach the first path on the right.

(1) Leave the central path and turn right onto the clearly marked track. Walk downhill until you can see the houses. Take a left-hand bend along the track that follows the edge of the forest. The path passes close to the Étang de Lutché and crosses the stream that feeds the pond.

(2) At the Fork in the road (not shown on the IGN map), turn right onto a path that follows the edge of the forest. Cross a stream, turn right along the path and then left. As you begin to see the road coming from Léguevin, the path passes in front of the Mare de Rieu Tord and then follows the Rieu Tord.

(3) At the fork in the road, leave the footbridge over the Rieu Tord on your right and take the path opposite to continue following the stream until you can see the car park at the Léguevin entrance.

(4) Cross the central path and the car park. At the end of the car park, turn right onto the path which leads onto the track following the Rieu Tord. Continue to follow the stream until you come out onto the path leading from the Mérenvielle car park.

(5) Turn left and walk up the path to the pidgeon hunting hut in the Bois Communal de l’Isle-Jourdain. The path is wide and gravelled.

(6) When the path is no longer gravelled, turn left at the fork. Continue along this winding path, ignoring the paths to the right and left. The path narrows, winds and reaches a fork (not shown on the IGN map) where it continues to join the Chemin de Saint-Jacques.

(7) Then take the left-hand fork and leave the lane you have just been following. Follow the path that leads into the undergrowth. This comes out onto Allée latérale No. 38, which is a wider and better-maintained lane. Continue straight on along this lane, which ends at the central lane directly opposite the car park at the start (S/E).

The Bouconne Forest is criss-crossed by a network of side paths that intersect the central path, which runs through the entire forest; the paths are numbered from north to south.

Worth a visit

You can have a picnic at the Saint-Louis car park, where there are tables and benches available.
During the hunting season, the forest is closed to the public: one Thursday a month; the closure dates are displayed at the entrance car parks.
At the car park, there is a map of the forest showing the numbering of the paths. It is advisable to take a photo of it.

We did this walk on a hot day, in the morning, at a brisk pace
It was very shady, except for the last stretch and a few short sections, but really very pleasant, with no difficulties
A very enjoyable, peaceful and cool outing
You can also start the walk from the car park in the middle of the forest

A pleasant walk I did in August. However, the walking time given seems a bit over the top to me. I did it in 1 hour 40 minutes without rushing.
