Start and finish at the Col de la Schleif, accessible from the D45 between Dabo and La Hoube.
(S/E) Head south for a few metres, then at the fork, take the forest path (marked Anneau Rouge).
(1) Leave the path and turn right to reach the Backofenfelsen (viewpoint). Return to the forest path and continue to the right, following the red ring markings. Ignore several paths on the left and right.
(2) After crossing the Grand Rosskopf, pass near the Steinerne Maennel rock: a very picturesque rock representing a stone man. Continue and join the Col de la Wetzlach.
(3) Continue south on the forest road, following the red ring markings towards Sandplatz.
(4) At Sandplatz, turn right onto the paved road and after a few metres, follow the path on the left (red ring).
(5) The path leads to a house at a place called "Hengst". Take the path on the left. Stay on the path for another hundred metres, then take the path on the right to follow the edge of the forest.
(6) At the Hengst stone, which gave the forest its name, continue south until you reach the paved forest road.
(7) Turn right onto the paved road.
(8) At the crossroads, leave the paved forest road and take the path opposite (Anneau Rouge). Stay on this path until you reach the Club Vosgien de Dabo shelter.
(9) At the Club Vosgien de Dabo shelter, continue north on the Route Forestière du Küneck, passing in front of the Maison Forestière du Spitzberg.
(10) Follow the path on the left (Croix Jaune) to the tip of Spitzberg.
(11) Enjoy the view, then return along the same path to the Club Vosgien shelter.
(9) Continue a few metres to the left on the forest road.
(12) Take the path on the left (red ring). Stay on this path, cross a forest road and then take it again on the right (red ring). You will come out at the Col de la Wetzlach.
(3) Ignore the route taken on the way there and continue on the forest road, heading north.
(13) Take the path on the right and pass near the Rosskopf Cross.
(1) Take the same route as on the way there and return to the Col de la Schleif (S/E).
