The Heritage Trail in Serra di Scopamena

This walk will offer you a brief yet emotionally rich encounter with everything that constitutes a sign, a trace or a memory of the area. This sense of place will be brought to life through the many restored examples of dry-stone heritage (walls, fountains, wash houses, mills, etc.).
As you walk along this trail, you will be following in the footsteps of the generations who came before us and who have bequeathed to us an expression of civilisation and a testament to the history of a community.

Description of the walk

The start of the walk is about a hundred metres past the town hall on the road towards Sorbollano, Quenza. The start is marked by a sign and a wrought-iron arrow (part of the trail’s signposting) and a sign pointing towards Sorbollano. You can park near the town hall.

(S/E) Take the cobbled path towards Sorbollano and you’ll reach the chestnut drying shed, situated below on the right.

(1) Go down the cobbled steps to reach a junction. Do not follow the Sentier de Mare à Mare (orange markings), but turn left, cross the stream and you’ll reach the mill (which is sometimes open to visitors). Continue up the stone steps to join the road. Turn left and walk for about a hundred metres, then turn right (leaving the road). Keep following the wrought-iron arrows. Continue along a narrow track, cross the road again and carry on straight ahead. Cross a gully and you’ll reach the chestnut grove.

(2) Continue along this route until you reach a tarmac road. Turn left and walk for about ten metres. There is a bread oven and, to your right, a little way down, a wash house where you can get a drink (fountain). Then retrace your steps and turn right onto the stone staircase. This path takes you back to your starting point (S/E).

A lovely family walk that’s well worth the detour to discover a beautiful Corsican village.
