The Mutzig Rocks Trail and Schiebenberg

This route allows you to discover the Sentier des Roches de Mutzig first, then continue on to a less wild section at Felsburg and then hike on the classic Tour du Schiebenberg. This route alternates between sections in the forest and in the fields.

Description of the walk

Park on Boulevard Clémenceau in Mutzig, between Route de Gresswiller and Rue du Stade.

(S/E) On the pavement, head towards the town centre, then turn left onto Rue du Maréchal Leclerc uphill.

(1) Don't miss the start of the trail on the left after about a hundred metres. This trail, marked with blue signs, first runs alongside fences before climbing into the forest. Then it passes through the rocks, with a few ropes to hold on to in the most difficult sections. Be careful not to fall, as the drop is quite significant in places. There are beautiful views of the Bruche Valley, Mutzig, Gresswiller, etc. Pass the Mockers memorial (former president of the Club Vosgien) and you will come to a staircase on the right leading up to the Refuge des Amis de la Marine.

(2) Take the blue disc marked trail on the right and continue uphill to the Refuge des Amis de la Marine.

(3) Pass in front of the building and continue straight ahead on the forest road until you reach a small menhir.

(4) Take the path marked with a green disc and blue easel on the left towards Carrefour du Felsburg. Look out for the small pond on the left.

(5) Take the path downhill on the right: marked Disque Vert and Chevalet Bleu. Look out for a cross erected in 1669.

(6) Continue straight ahead until you reach the edge of the forest, then turn left towards the road.

(7) Cross it carefully, turn right and follow the road for a few dozen metres, then turn left onto the grassy path uphill marked with a blue disc and blue cross. Pass another cross and continue to the intersection of paths. Enjoy the panoramic views in this part of the route.

(8) Take the uphill path on the left marked with a blue cross and cross the summit called Mittelpinn. Continue to the fork that leads to the summit of Schiebenberg.

(9) Turn left and after about 100 metres, take the path to the right at the barrier. After the summit, which is marked by a sign, the grassy path (not marked) becomes narrower and runs alongside the bushes until the statue of Our Lady of Schiebenberg comes into view.

(10) After visiting and perhaps taking a short break, turn left onto the path marked with a blue cross and yellow ring, which descends steeply between the shrubs. Take the second path on the left at the bench, then turn right at the next bench (same markings) and continue to the next fork.

(11) Take the path on the left until you reach Route du Camp, then walk carefully along the right-hand side for about 100 metres towards Dinsheim-sur-Bruche.

(12) Turn left onto the small path, still marked with a blue cross and yellow ring, and at the end take the path on the right towards Mutzig station. This path is located between the properties and the forest.

(13) At this point, a visit to the Jardin Folâtre is a must! Then continue to the D392 (Rue du Général de Gaulle). Follow the road for a few dozen metres, then cross it carefully to visit the Chapelle Saint-Wendelin.

(14) Head towards the roundabout, cross at the pedestrian crossing, then take the pavement on the right to the car park (S/E).

A lovely hike that allows you to get back into shape after a period of inactivity.
The description of the route and intersection points is well done.
Please note that the start of the route is disrupted due to bad weather, which has resulted in a lot of tree felling and logging work. From points 4 and 5 onwards, there is no doubt about the route.

Note: foggy days are a disadvantage.

Thank you to those who created this lovely route.
