Description of the walk

(S/E) The starting point for this hike is at the Vions car park, at a place called Les Taillards, right next to the Saut du Doubs.
Head towards the car park by going down the small road and, at the tourist signs for the watchmaking region, take the path on the left, which is paved to prevent runoff. The path avoids the road by cutting across the hairpin bends. After the steps that lead to the road, take the road on the left.

(1) Take the path that descends to the right. Follow the small fork on the left to reach the road at a small car park and take the path opposite to rejoin the road and descend to the Saut du Doubs site.

(2) Turn left between the two buildings, passing the souvenir shops and small terraces. The path is well maintained until the first overhang of the Saut du Doubs. Be sure to take the path on the right.

(3) After this first overhang at the waterfall, climb the steps to reach the Saut du Doubs viewpoint. Then continue along the path, which becomes less well maintained (GR®5), towards the Châtelot dam. Follow this path along the reservoir for a good kilometre before passing under a rock arch. Continue on theGR®5to the Châtelot dam, passing "Robin Hood's hut" and the fishermen's boats.

(4) Retrace your steps to the first path that branches off to the right and uphill. At this point, you will leave theGR®5. At the first fork, continue uphill to the right, then take a hairpin bend and continue uphill.

(5) Turn right. Then follow a sharp bend to the left before joining the yellow and blue markings. Continue climbing to the right until you reach a large turning area for forestry work.
Climb up to the ridge via the path that climbs steeply at the start, then join the Châtelard viewpoint.

(6) Continue on the yellow and blue marked trail along the ridge. Then descend along the ridge and rejoin the road.

(1) Continue left along this road, then take the concrete path, starting by climbing the steps to the Vions car park (S/E).

Hello,

I've been told that as you have to walk to Saut du Doubs, it's very quiet. Is this true? The guidebook says it's a tourist hotspot, so I'm not sure.

A very nice, busy hike to the Saut du Doubs, then almost no traffic to the belvedere. Quite a strenuous climb, but the view over the lake is well worth it.
We only regretted the lack of places to picnic.

Superb hike, great views of the waterfall and lake. A few minor orientation problems after the descent from Le Châtelard (path not very clear at times, not enough description).

All the way to the Saut du Doubs, a busy path. There was plenty of water at the jump and the spray rose almost to the top! Well-marked walk. I think that doing the hike in reverse (i.e. starting in the forest) is interesting because walking along the Doubs is teeellleeeeally beautiful. That said, the passage through the forest is very musical, the birds sing and sing.
In reply to Jef70 of 16 May 2022, from the Châtelot dam, you have to retrace your steps to the crossing that leads to Le Châtelard, about 2km each way.

It was very hot, but the route was mostly in the forest, so it was well suited to the conditions; there was still enough water for the Saut du Doubs!

Thank you for this great walk. The Les Vions car park is easy to find using the Visorando app, which redirects you to Google Maps. Cascade sèche this summer 2022.

This walk is made all the more enjoyable by the early start, before the boat services begin.

Superb hike. The climb up to Chatelard is well worth it!
Very few people at this time of year.
It was just the sun that was lacking, which was a shame. But that doesn't detract from the beauty of the site.

Very nice hike, just one small problem: how to get to the Les Vions car park without passing through the Saut du Doubs. The signposting is not clear at any point, indicating the car park.
To all hikers do not hesitate at the dam to push to the lock you will not be disappointed.
