The Rocher Brûlé and its remarkable trees

Park at the Carrefour de la Croix du Grand Maître car park.

(S/E) Head north-west along the Route de la Croix du Grand Maître, then at the next junction, turn right onto the Route de Médicis to join the D301.

(1) Cross the road with care and continue along the Route de Médicis opposite. Follow this road, passing a sessile oak (circumference: 3.2 m) on the way. Continue to the junction with the Route de Montmorin.
On this road, on the left, there are two magnificent sessile oaks, a twelve-stemmed hornbeam and another sessile oak. Turn left and continue along the Route de Montmorin to the next junction.

(2) On the corner to your right, there is a two-stemmed pedunculate oak. Turn right onto the Route du Chêne Feuillu and then turn left diagonally onto the Route de la Curée: at the junction on the left, there is a pedunculate oak. Carry on and, before reaching the next junction, on your left are two oaks: one with three trunks, 4.90 m in circumference, and the other, a Tauzin oak with two trunks, 3.30 m in circumference. Turn right onto the Route de la Retraite for a short while.

(3) At the crossroads, turn right onto the Route de l’Hallali; further on, on your left, there is a four-stemmed sessile oak with a circumference of 5 m. Carry on: at the next junction, there is another four-stemmed sessile oak with a circumference of 5 m. Turn left onto the Route du Chêne Feuillu, cross the Route Desquinemare, then the Route de la Meute , noting another two-trunked sessile oak with a circumference of 4 m as you pass. Continue along the Route du Chêne Feuillu, crossing the Route Lefoin with a magnificent grafted black pine on your right. Continue straight on.

(4) At the junction, turn right onto the Route de Marion des Roches. Just before reaching the next crossroads, take the winding path on the right, cross the Route Lefoin and continue to the City of Paris’s water treatment plant. Go round it on the right until you reach the Route de la Prise, which you follow to the left to reach the Route de la Meute. Follow this to the left and, further on, turn right onto the Route de Médicis. In turn, you will see on your right: a sessile oak with a circumference of 4.8 m, and a wild cherry tree with a circumference of 1.65 m. Cross the Route de l’Hallali; on your right is a sessile oak with a circumference of 3 metres, shaped like a lyre at the top. Continue along this road until the next junction.
(5) Turn left onto the Route de la Plaine du Rut. At the junction, turn right, then at the next junction turn left to reach the Carrefour du Rocher des Princes. Cross the D 148 with care and take the Route Besnard on the right, then turn right again onto the Route du Grand Maitre to return to the starting car park (S/E).

Admire magnificent sessile or pedunculate oaks with multiple trunks, a grafted black pine and a Tauzin oak. On the way, you’ll pass the Vanne aqueduct, which supplies water to the Paris region.
