Le Roc'h Trédudon via the north and then south flanks

Discover the superb panoramic views to the north and south from the summit of the Monts d'Arrée. This fairly strenuous hike takes you across the moorland ridges, through the small village of Plounéour-Ménez, and then along the wooded paths of the forest around La Feuillée.

Description of the walk

The car park is located at Col de Trédudon, on the D36 road between La Feuillée and Plounéour-Ménez.

(S/E) Leave the car park heading west (towards the large antenna), taking the ridge path to the junction of the paths leading up from the south and north valleys.

(1) Turn right onto the "Route des Roc'h" path and begin the descent. Cross the D36 with caution and continue downhill on the same path opposite until you reach the D785 and a small tarmac road.

(2) After a few metres on the small road, turn left into the tunnel under the main road, then turn right.
A little further on, turn right again, then immediately left. Continue along the main road.
Continue straight ahead after an intersection until you reach the pumping station.

(3) In front of the pumping station, take a path on the right and enter the grove.
Cross a small stream, pass a fountain and continue until you enter the small industrial area of Plounéour-Ménez.
Cross the area, reach the road crossing the village and turn right to reach the D785.

(4) Cross the D785 carefully, continue straight ahead and, a little further on, turn right towards Guirhoel to start the "Route de la Montagne" (Mountain Route).
Cross the housing estate and, at the end, a small parking area, then turn right onto a wide path.

(5) The very gentle climb begins through a copse, then into the moorland. Ignore the numerous crossroads and continue along the "Route de la Montagne".
Further on, the path turns sharply to the left and descends towards the valley.

(6) Halfway up the slope, atthe first crossroads, leave the "Route de la Montagne" by turning right and continue on the "Route de l'Abbaye" (the fork is not very clearly marked).
Further on, turn right, cross a small stream and continue to a junction 50 metres further on.

(7) At the intersection, turn right (ignore the path that goes straight ahead, which appears to be the main route).
Continue climbing the slightly steeper slope to the top, where you will come to a junction with the Chemin des Crêtes.
Continue downhill until you reach a road.

(8) Cross the road and follow the wide path opposite.
Further on, turn right and continue along the route, which is a stream bed, more or less dry depending on the season but very passable, until you reach the road leading to Trédudon Le Moine (a key location in the Resistance).

(9) Turn left, then take the wide embankment on the right.
Cross the road and continue on the path opposite.
Cross the stream and, at the next intersection, turn right until you reach the entrance to Trédudon-l'Hôpital.

(10) Before the first houses, turn left onto a path which, further on, turns into a small road, crossing a group of farmhouses.
Cross the road and take the stony farm track opposite, which climbs gently to the edge of the D764 main road.

(11) Turn right and follow the small road to join the main road at the intersection leading to the Col de Trédudon.
Cross the D36 carefully, follow it for a few metres, then take the path on the left to climb up to the junction of the north/south and ridge paths.

(1) Turn right to reach the car park (S/E).

Notes

It is best to do this hike in good weather to fully enjoy the panorama.
Don't forget to bring water and protect yourself from the sun, as there are not many trees in the desert highlands.
From (4) to (8), there are many crossroads that can lead you astray and the route is not always marked, so it is best to check the route regularly on the app.

Worth a visit

From (S/E) to (1) and then between (7) and (8), there are panoramic views of the northern and southern valleys.

A lovely walk with beautiful forest paths. No difficulties. There’s a short stretch along a main track and a road, but it’s still very manageable. I’d recommend it.

A 16.10km walk taking 3 hours and 21 minutes along this beautiful hiking route. Best enjoyed in clear weather as much of the route is open and offers stunning views of the Monts d’Arrée. No difficult sections and no particularly marshy areas.

A beautiful walk in the Monts d'Arrée, with a wide variety of landscapes, no difficulty, and very gentle slopes.

Please note that the car park mentioned in the description was not accessible, but we were able to park without any problems a little further down, at the crossroads between the D36 and the D764: there was enough space on the side of the road, very close to point 11.

We did the walk in the opposite direction to the one suggested, which didn't make much difference.

In response to Bruno 129, there is very little tarmac (which I really appreciate), but there are lots of rocks and stones, which tender feet like mine can feel

Many thanks to whoever published this route.

A superb route that follows part of another very pleasant circular route. The elevation gain is gradual and fairly easy. The southern section is very interesting for its woodland trails. There is very little tarmac, which is very pleasant.
Thank you for this route.

Superb route along the ridges and slopes—magnificent views of northern Finistère and the Monts d'Arrée—one of the most beautiful wild hikes without roads in Finistère.

An original hike that allows you to explore both sides of the Monts d'Arrée.
The view is magnificent and you pass through some very pleasant remote hamlets.
