Park at the Rocher Canon car park, near the Route Ronde (D142). Start at the large clearing, at the information boards. There is a discreet sign indicating the start of the Dénécourt trail no. 12 (blue markings).
(S/E) Turning at a right angle away from the road with your back to the car park, take the steps heading west. Barely 30 m after the start of the steps, turn right onto the blue trail. Follow the blue trail carefully as it zigzags between the rocks and remarkable trees
(1) In a plain, at a large crossroads (plots 855 and 863, Route de la Femme, Route Turbigo, Route du Sanglier), the blue markings turn left. Leave the markings and continue straight ahead on Route du Sanglier (south-west, unmarked). The path is stony and climbs steadily.
(2) At the next crossroads (plot 869), turn right (west) onto the Route Tournante des Longues Vallées, which is flat.
(3) At the second crossroads (route de la Laie, signposted "Réserve biologique dirigée"), continue straight ahead on flat ground (west, then south) onto the Route Tournante du Camp de Chailly (green-yellow signposting). At a crossroads (Route Tournante du Cuvier-Châtillon), the green-yellow signs turn left. Continue straight ahead towards the beautiful viewpoint of Camp de Chailly.
(4) Go back, turn right at the Y-junction. Turn right onto Route de la Solitude and go downhill (at a wooden sign engraved "Point de vue du Camp de Chailly", quite hidden by vegetation; not signposted). Note the interesting quarry face on the left.
(5) At the bottom of the slope, you will come to a junction with the Route du Solitaire. Keep left and follow theGR® markings (white and red) uphill. The path climbs, descends and zigzags between rocks. Watch out for sudden changes in direction.
(6) At a small crossroads, turn right at a right angle.
(7) In a sandy clearing, the signs turn left at a right angle. Leave the signs and turn right (southwest) onto Route du Cuvier Châtillon. 50 m further on, take a faint path on the left that climbs between the rocks (unmarked; remains of old blue signs). Pass a large inscription on a rock "Reconnaissance (signed) Colinet", then join a natural tunnel marked with the blue letter "K".
At the tunnel exit, follow the blue markings (Denecourt trail no. 5) to the left (east), which climbs and then follows the edge of the plateau. Pass the Mare aux Canards.
About 250 m after this pond (I counted 390 steps), at a clearing on the edge of the plateau (photo) surrounded by pine trees, take a well-marked but unmarked path perpendicular to the left (north). The path fades a little; continue in the same general north direction.
(8) A sign on a tree commemorates the storms Lothar and Martin of 1999: from here, turn right, northeast.
(9) Pass the Mare à Dagneau and, at the next crossroads, turn right onto the Route de la Mare à Piat (east). Go around this beautiful pond with its water lilies to reach the Route du Cuvier Châtillon.
(10) Turn right (east) towards the D142 (Route Ronde). Cross this road, taking care of cars coming at high speed (caution).
(11) Opposite, descend towards the Grotte aux Cristaux. Continue east on the left branch of Chemin Denecourt No. 4 (blue markings) towards Rocher Saint-Germain.
(12) As the path zigzags between the interesting rocks of Rocher Saint-Germain, a white sign on the right-hand side of the path indicates the start of connecting path no. 4–12. Follow this path uphill to the left (north).
(13) At a crossroads, another white sign indicates the Denecourt trail no. 12. Take this trail to the left towards Rocher Canon. From here, follow the blue trail no. 12 until you reach the Table du Grand Maître, engraved in stone with benches.
(14) The signpost turns right at a right angle (northeast), away from the road.
At the next crossroads, continue left (west) onto Route des Longues Vallées. This crosses the D142 again and continues opposite. 100 m further on, the signpost turns right (Route du Roi, north-west) then left onto a path and joins the interesting rocks of Rocher Canon.
Still following the Denecourt Bleu signpost No. 12, return to the Rocher Canon car park (S/E).
