From Clermont-Ferrand, head towards Orcines and park at the top of the Panoramique des Dômes car park (Maison de Site), near the motorhome area.
(S/E) Take the Route du Puy-de-Dôme, which follows the Panoramique des Dômes railway line. You will come to a crossroads just before the barrier.
(1) Turn left onto Chemin des Gouris. Keep right, heading south-west, at the first junction, then go straight ahead at the second. You will come to a third junction.
(2) Turn right onto the widest path until you reach the Col de Ceyssat road.
(3) Cross the car park to reach the start of Chemin des Muletiers opposite. Take it on the right and follow it to the summit of Puy-de-Dôme.
(4) At the station, go around the summit on the left in a clockwise direction to admire the view. Descend from the summit, passing in front of the ruins of the Temple of Mercury.
(5) Continue along the steps and take the road on the left, which is the start of the Chemin des Chèvres, part of theGR®®4trail.
(6) Continue right on the Chemin des Chèvres (stairs). You will come to a fountain at the edge of the woods; continue straight ahead to reach it.
(7) Turn right onto Chemin des Gravouses. Continue straight ahead atthe first crossroads, then follow two hairpin bends. After thesecond bend, head straight ahead to Chemin des Gouris.
(8) Turn right onto this path. Continue straight ahead on the wide path until you reach the junction with the Puy-de-Dôme road and the Panoramique des Dôme railway tracks at the initial crossroads.
(1) Descend to the left to return via the same route you took to the top of the car park (S/E).
