Car parks before or after the Passage de la Tour.
(S/E) At the signpost for "Passage de la Tour", take the wide track towards "Pré de Cinq Sous" (GR® de Pays du Tour des Monts du Matin).
The track climbs up the Vallon des Combins (grazing area: make sure you close the gates behind you), then begins the switchbacks towards the Col des Marchands (you can cut across the switchbacks via steep tracks straight up the slope).
You will come to a fork in the tracks and the signpost for "La Grangéra".
(1) Leave theGR® and take the track on the right, heading south (pass the chain) towards "Pré de Cinq Sous" (yellow markings). After about 1,000 metres, you will come to a fork in the tracks (the one on the right leads to Pierre Rousse, the one on the left is a recent forestry track). Look for the path above the track on the left (cairn).
(2) Take this path on the left. Initially on the shoulder and sometimes quite steep, it then turns eastwards under the Pré des Fourmis. After about 1000 m, it turns left and reaches the "Saragaillard" signpost at the foot of a remarkable beech tree.
(3) Turn left towards "Pré de Cinq Sous". After passing a tin hut on the left, the path reaches Pré de Cinq Sous (directional signpost).
(4) Climb the meadow, straight up the slope towards the east in the direction of "Pas Pourceau". The climb is steep but the reward is worth the effort... Once you reach Pas Pourceau (cairn), turn right towards Pas de la Pierre (signpost, indicating the45th parallel) and head for the cliffs.
(5) At the cliffs (be very careful), admire the view, then retrace your steps and descend the Pré to Saragaillard.
(3) Take the path to the left of the famous beech tree towards "Vareires". This path, marked in yellow, is sometimes steep and slippery in wet weather (ropes are stretched out in places to hold on to and prevent slipping), and after about 2000 m it reaches a fork.
(6) Leave the main path and take the path on the right (unmarked) which descends into the Ravin des Goulets. This well-marked path, which is sometimes quite stony, leads to the clearing and the aptly named "La Baraque".
(7) To the left of the barracks, take the middle track (the one on the right runs parallel to this track, while the one on the left climbs up to the Ravin de la Grand Font). The track joins the Ravin de Tête d'Homme, and at the place known as "Tête d'Homme", it becomes tarmac and leads to the car park at the start (S/E).
