The Plateau des Daines

The walk starts from the car park at Chaumont Church.

(S/E) Walk round the church on the right and cross the Route de Saint-Jean. Turn right onto Rue des Écoliers (towards Chez Margoët). About a hundred metres further on, turn left down the slope onto the Chemin de Compostelle (GR 65 –^GR® 965) until you reach the junction at the hamlet of Chez Margoët.

(1) Turn right towards Pré Magnin. 50 metres further on, carry straight on along the Chemin de Compostelle (dirt track). 250 metres further on, at Pré Magnin, carry straight on towards Pré Boisé.
Once at Pré Boisé, carry on straight ahead towards Collonges. Shortly afterwards, at the end of the dirt track, turn right onto the road. Then continue along the Route des Daines to reach Collonges.

(2) Leave the^{GR® route.} Turn right towards Sur Persée. Pass through the hamlet of Collonges, staying on the Route des Daines. On leaving the hamlet, at the junction, take the uphill road to the right. Continue straight on at the next two junctions. At the top of the hill, after passing the houses, you’ll reach a Fork in the road.

(3) Take the left-hand branch of the road; it continues with a bend. Take care on this section. After just under a kilometre, at Sur Persée, just beneath a high-voltage power line, a path branches off to the right.

(4) Take this towards Vovray. 300 metres further on, cross the road and take the path opposite. Continue in the same direction to reach the hamlet of Loblaz. Carry on to the junction with the Loblaz road.

(5) First turn left then right at the Route de Loblaz to join the Chemin de Vovray, which heads north
When you reach a road again, turn left and continue along it to Vovray. After a right-hand bend, in Vovray, the road takes a wide left-hand bend.

(6) In the bend near a crucifix, leave the road and turn right onto the forest track towards Champs Rousset. 500 metres further on, at Champs Rousset, carry straight on along the forest track.

(7) When you reach the hamlet of Chaumontet, keep going straight on at the various junctions. As you leave the hamlet, at the start of a large right-hand bend, turn left onto the dirt track leading downhill near the houses. Continue to the bottom of the track.

(8) Carry on straight ahead, following the road. 150 metres further on, carry on straight ahead and walk past the cemetery. Continue along the Route de Chaumontet, then turn off onto the Route de l’Alfflit. When you reach the church, turn right and head back to the car park (S/E).

Follow the signposting for the Haut-Savoie department (yellow logo on a green background).

There is a small car park at the Auberge du Pralet and at Chaumont Church.
There is also a water point at the start.

Extra: visit the ruins of Chaumont Castle.
Head towards the Auberge du Pralet. At the signpost for Chaumont (church), turn left towards Château de Chaumont (ruins). It takes 5 minutes to get there, but it’s well worth a look!

The ruins of Chaumont Castle are one of the highlights not to be missed on this walk.
After the cemetery, in Chaumontet, on your left, there is a Roussette wine-tasting cellar (EARL Le Caveau de la Treille).
Geological features (such as sharp limestone pavement) and historical sites can be explored on this family-friendly and accessible walk.
