Coming from Saint-Privat, the car park is on the right-hand side of the D259, at the end of the Échelette climb.
(S/E) Leave the car park via the south-west corner via a fairly steep flight of steps. Pass two paths on the right and take a path on the left heading south-west.
At the three-way junction, turn right, pass a path on the right then another on the left, and reach a crossroads after the right-hand bend.
(1) Continue, always taking the path on the right, pass an information sign and arrive at a signpost indicating the oppidum.
(2) At this point, a triangular area has been cleared to highlight the rampart. Take the path on the left and continue along the rampart to a first viewpoint above the cliff.
(3) Walk to the northern end of the small plateau, following the row of large stone blocks. Turn right, then immediately left onto a path heading north.
Continue along this path, which approaches the cliff in several places before beginning to descend along the ridge.
(4) At a pile of stones, possibly a collapsed wall, take the path on the right. Continue downwards and join a path coming up from the valley.
Take this path on the right to climb back up towards the rampart site.
(5) Before reaching the cleared area, look out for the remains of a round tower. Take the path that crosses this tower, then turn left to follow the inside of the rampart.
At the end of the rampart, just before reaching the top of the cliff, keep left to pass through the main entrance gate with its zigzag wall.
After the gate, head right again towards the cliff, then take the path on the left that runs between the second and third stone blocks. Follow this path to a Y-junction.
(6) Turn right. About fifty metres further on, you’ll reach a scree slope. These are the remains of the northern wall of the “Camp de César” enclosure. Take the path on the right that follows this wall.
(7) You’ll reach an open area offering another view of the Ardèche valley to the south, towards Saint-Sernin and Mont Vinobre. Head back almost in the opposite direction, taking the wide path on the left that passes over the highest point of the hill. Continue along this path, cross the “Camp de César” enclosure once more, and head back down towards the bottom of the valley.
At the first junction after the descent, turn left. Continue northwards and take the first path on the right to return to the junction of the circular route.
(1) Follow the path to the right along the route taken on the way out and return to the car park (S/E).
