Parking is available near the hamlet of Chièze (north of the village of Montbuzat), along the road leading to the small hamlet of Majal. There is a car park above Chièze (to the north), but the road leading to it is very steep and narrow, which can be a problem when the road is slippery or for wide vehicles such as motorhomes.
N.B. The car park located north-east of the peak indicated on the maps is no longer accessible.
(S/E) Take the small road towards Majal (east) following the yellow signs for the Bonas trail. After 700m, you will reach Majal. Note the Protestant graves on the left of the road. Continue on this road, which is still marked in yellow.
(1) At the first intersection, turn left, heading northeast. After 200 metres, you will reach a fork: leave the more or less paved road on your left and continue right on the grassy path, which goes around a farm on the left (Sentier de Bonas marked in yellow). 250 metres further on, at the crossroads, turn left, and then again 100 metres further on.
(2) You will reach a larger track, which you cross to begin the climb to the summit of the peak.
Previously, before a traffic ban, the track on the right led to a chalet, a commonly used starting point for the Pic du Lizieux.
Follow a small path that zigzags upwards, first through the forest and then between boulders and slabs of rock (head west). Despite a few side paths, you can't get lost if you keep your eyes on the summit and the yellow markings.
All along the climb, enjoy magnificent views of the Monts du Vivarais to the east and Mont Mezenc to the south.
Just before the summit, you will reach a small plateau to the north-east. At the summit, there is a 360° view (two beautiful orientation tables engraved on phonolite slabs).
(3) To descend from the peak, follow the trail towards the south-west. Shortly after reaching the forest, the track becomes wider.
(4) Leave the Sentier de Bonas on your left (i.e. leave the yellow markings) and continue straight ahead on this track until you reach a junction with another track.
(5) Turn left, cross a track and continue straight ahead. You will see a small car park on the left in the forest. Continue straight ahead on the track, which is now paved and descends steeply to return to your starting point (S/E).
