Car parks are available at the starting point.
This is the main site for the Gresse ski lift operations in winter.
To get there, in the village centre, turn right towards “Station”, leaving the signs for “Col de l’Allimas” and “St-Michel les Portes” straight ahead.
Yellow and green markings
(S/E) Set off along the south-west-facing path immediately after the Blachon chairlift, the last lift on the right.
The path climbs steeply and almost continuously through woodland and meadows to a junction of marked trails.
(1) Continue climbing over scree to the final destination: the Pas de La Ville.
To the west, discover the northern part of the Vercors Plateau; to the east, in the foreground, the village of Gresse crowned by its rocky ridges; and, in the background, the distant ranges of Belledone, Oisans, Écrins, Dévoluy and Queyras.
(2) After taking in the scenery, turn back to the crossroads you passed on the way up.
(1) Two options for the return journey:
- if you are not properly equipped, descend via the same route you took on the way up to the car park.
- following the route shown here, and provided you are well equipped, take the slightly more technical section to the right. You will need to exercise caution and concentration, as the path takes you through narrower sections and occasionally over rocky ledges, though these pose no great danger, until you cross the bed of the Rif Veymont.
(3) Afterwards, the path improves, widens and becomes a track at the fork near the Veymont Forest Hut.
(4) Follow the track north-east for just over a kilometre until you reach a signpost.
(5) Turn left towards Gresse, taking a path that is half grass, half earth and descends more steeply.
(6) Cross a main track, stay on the same path opposite, on the downhill section, and follow it until you reach the ski lift car park (S/E).
