Parking in front of the church or at the Town Hall in Busy, below the church opposite the small football pitch. Yellow-blue markings; much of the route is unmarked but follows clearly identifiable paths.
(S/E) Head down towards the cemetery, with your back to the church, following the yellow-blue markings. At the sign for Chemin des Landoz-Stade, turn right (Mountain Bike Route 57) until you reach the Stop sign, where the road meets the D104. Turn right again. Take the first small road on the left, the Chemin des Champs Sucray, which climbs through the woods and quickly becomes stony.
(1) You’ll reach a wider clearing at a crossroads of paths. Ignore the markings and continue straight ahead (the third path from the left). At the nearby fork, take the left-hand path. You’ll reach another junction where the stony track veers sharply to the right. Continue straight on along the path that runs alongside the pine forest. Soon, on the right, between the trees, you’ll catch a glimpse of the keep of Montferrand Castle.
(2) You’ll reach a fork; take the descending path on the right, crossing a meadow to reach the Pierre de Vorges, a small stone footbridge that has unfortunately collapsed. Wade across the stream, possibly getting your feet a little wet at certain times of year. Head off to the far left, following the Moulin stream. As you emerge from the woods, you cross a charming little wild valley that leads up to Moulin Caillet. You reach the D104.
(3) Climb carefully to the left for 500 metres, ignoring the first path on the right, and follow the second one which starts at the bend and climbs up the Essart du Loup, a name evocative of a bygone era. There are no signposts, but head straight on without hesitation up this lovely climb, taking the time to look back and admire the view of the mountains. When the stones give way to earth, you will soon come to another stony path at a right angle. Follow it up to the left for 200 metres to the Monument de Vorges, erected in memory of the poor lads who fell during the War of 1870.
(4) Continue along this lovely stony path. Through the trees on the left, you’ll catch another glimpse of the castle ruins. As you emerge from the woods, enjoy beautiful views of the Besançon mountains.
(5) After the farm shed, continue straight on (right-hand track), passing the farmhouse inn, to return to Busy (S/E).
