Along the Chenal de la Somme from Cap Hornu

A very short walk along the edge of the Baie de Somme, in the salt marshes, where the channel leading to the port of Saint-Valéry-sur-Somme is clearly marked by red buoys on the port side (when going from the sea to the port) and green buoys on the starboard side.

Before setting out on this walk, it is advisable to check the tide times and coefficients (see practical information).

Description of the walk

Departure from the Cap Hornu car park.

(S/E) Head north-west, pass a chicane and follow the channel on your right along a marked path.

(1) Continue straight ahead, as close as possible to the channel, until you reach a stretch of water that is impassable at high tide.

(2) Turn left onto a less marked path. After about 75 metres, turn left again and follow a stream on your right. The path remains narrow.

(1) Return to the path you took on the way there and follow it to the right until you reach the car park (S/E).

  2. 1 : km 0.39 - alt. 5 m - Crossing the circular

Notes

Wear footwear that can withstand damp conditions.

Warning:
For the best views, it is best to do this hike when the sea is high or nearly high. However, the car park at the start and the path itself may be submerged during high tides. The best compromise between safety and scenic beauty is therefore to start this hike shortly after high tide, when the sea is calm or beginning to ebb. In any case, it is advisable to check the tide times and coefficients.

A detailed map is useful (at least the one accompanying this description).
