Le Hable d'Ault from Cayeux-sur-Mer

A short hike focused on water and birds! In the first part, you cross a nature reserve and enjoy superb views of several ponds. The second part takes place on the wide pebble strip, high up, by the sea.

Description of the walk

Start from the car park at the southern end of the Cayeux seafront.

Red, white and yellow markings

(S/E) Head south and, when the tarmac road turns left, continue straight ahead. Two parallel paths appear: take the gravel path on the right and walk alongside the buildings on your left.

Yellow markings

(1) At the corner of the last building, turn right onto the coastal path (leaving the GR®120 trail to your left). Walk along the wide strip of pebbles towards the clearly visible southern landmark, leaving an isolated house on your left.

(2) At the foot of the landmark, turn left and you will immediately come to a crossroads.

Red and white markings

Continue straight ahead until you reach a road.

(3) Then turn right twice and take the wide stony path. Ignore a turn-off on the left and pass the sign indicating the entrance to a protected natural area. Pass under the metal gate, continue along the path and note a few blockhouses a short distance to the right. You will reach a bird observation post (superb view of a pond). Shortly afterwards, take a short detour to the left to reach an orientation table.

(4) Return to the main path and continue south (ignore a turn-off on the left). Go through a gate and walk between two fences. Pass three observation posts on the right and then one on the left. Come out onto a track (car park on the right) and follow it to the left for about 20 metres.

No markings

(5) Then turn sharply right, go through a gate and climb up to a wide strip of pebbles. Follow this to the right and walk with a view of the sea on your left and the ponds you saw earlier on your right. Continue straight ahead to the southern landmark.

Yellow markings

(2) Continue straight ahead along the coastal path.

Red and white + yellow markings

(1) Continue straight ahead on the stabilised path and head for the southern seafront car park (S/E).
