The walk starts from the Cap Hornu car park, which is free.
(S/E) Leave the car park and turn left towards Saint-Valéry. A little further on, take the path on the right towards the Chapelle des Marins.
(1) Once at the chapel, take the path on the left to reach Rue de l'Abbaye. Walk a few dozen metres to the right, then turn right into Rue de l'Ermitage. At the crossroads, turn left to return to Rue de l'Abbaye and follow it to the right until you reach Porte Jeanne d'Arc.
(2) Take a short detour to the left to pass by the viewpoint, return to the street and continue to the left until you reach the bend. Leave the street and take the path along the old ramparts that leads to Saint-Martin Church.
(3) Go around the church on the left, passing through the small passageway. Join Rue du Puits Salé, follow it to the left, then turn right at the third street, Rue du Comte Robert. Then turn left to reach the ramparts herbarium at the corner of Rue Rouault and Rue Brandt.
(4) Walk along the herbarium, turn left onto Rue de la Mare Bouchée and you will come to the roundabout on Rue Jean Acloque. Turn left, then right onto Rue de Neuville, at the corner of the cemetery.
(5) At the three-way junction, turn left onto Rue Saint-Augustin, then Rue des Moulins, taking the left-hand bend. Join Rue de la Ferté after passing the "Calvaire des Marins" (Sailors' Calvary) just before it.
(6) Turn right and follow Rue de la Ferté to the crossroads, just before a long car park. Then turn left to reach Quai Blavet and continue left towards Cap Hornu. Further on, continue straight ahead on Quai Courbet, then Quai Jeanne d'Arc, which follows on from it. Pass the orientation table and turn left.
(7) Turn left to return to Porte Jeanne d'Arc. First turn right then left onto Rue du Quesnoy and, at the end, turn right onto Rue des Fossés, which continues as a path leading to Rue Basse des Remparts.
Follow it to the right for about 60 metres, then turn left onto Rue du Mont Roti, which joins Rue Jean Acloque.
(8) Immediately turn right onto Rue des Moines, then right again onto Rue des Processions. A little further on, turn left onto Rue de la Chapelle to reach the chapel.
(1) Retrace your steps and return to the car park. Walk past it and continue along the road until you reach the start of the coastal path.
(9) Follow this path to the right and continue to the path that returns along the beach to the car park (S/E).
