Access: In the village of Saissac, follow the signs for Bassin du Lampy on the D4. After a few kilometres, a sign will indicate the basin on the right on the D324. There is a very large car park on the left of the road where you can park in summer. In the off-season, continue along the road and after 500 metres you will arrive at the lake, where there is plenty of parking between the trees.
(S/E) Go down towards the lake on the right and take the path that leads to the dam, which is clearly visible. Cross the dam and, as soon as you come out, take a wide track on the left. Follow this varied path, which is very busy in summer. Stay within sight of the lake. The entire start of the walk follows theGR®7(white and red markings).
(1) You will come to a small ford on your left, which I recommend taking. TheGR®7makes a loop that is very muddy when it rains. Climb up the embankment after the ford and you will be back on theGR®7. Continue along the lake until you come to a large bend to the right that takes you away from it. You will arrive at some holiday homes, Le Lampiot.
(2) At the entrance to the houses, turn left onto the wide road. After 500 metres, you will come to a crossroads at an elevation of 677 metres, where the left-hand branch is not shown on the maps. Don't worry, just turn right! Continue until you find a road on your left that temporarily leaves theGR®7. You can also continue onthe GR® as the two paths rejoin a few hundred metres further on.
(3) Continue along this wide road and you will find theGR® markings again. Continue until you see a river ahead of you that at first glance appears impassable: this is the Lampy.
(4) Take the path on the right that leads to the bridge over the river. The river makes two sharp bends, giving the impression that there is 20 metres of impassable water. Continue for 200 metres until you reach a large crossroads.
(5) Take the main road on the left and then immediately left again. Here, you leave theGR®7and head back down towards the lake. Follow this path in the shade of the beech trees, which runs alongside the Lampy, which you can hear murmuring below on your left.
(6) Be careful not to miss a narrow, sunken path that descends to the left towards the river. Follow this path down to a concrete ford over the Lampy.
(7) Do not cross the ford, but instead take a barely visible path on the right a few metres before it. This path varies greatly as it is very busy in summer. However, if you keep the lake on your left, you cannot get lost, as everyone ends up at the same place. You will emerge from the forest onto a stone and concrete dyke. At the end of the dyke, you will find your cars along the lake (S/E).
