Access: to get to the starting point of the hike from Chapareillan, take the Col du Granier road for about 4.5 km. At a hairpin bend on the right, you will find the large Lac de la Puce car park.
(S/E) Start the hike by following the wide path (GR® 965) towards Lac Noir. Very quickly, you will cross a stream over a pretty wooden bridge.
About 400 metres from the start, you will see an old boundary marker between the Dauphiné and Savoie regions on your left, dating from 1822 (with a fleur-de-lis on one side and the cross of Savoie on the other).
Continue along the trail, which winds through a beautiful forest strewn with large rocks from the Mont Granier landslide in 1248. You will reach an intersection.
(1) Turn right towards Lac Noir via Enclos (you will take the path on the left on the way back).
You will come out onto a small marshy clearing, from where you can admire the imposing north face of Mont Granier. The route continues through the woods and quickly leads you to Lac Noir.
(2) After admiring Mont Granier reflected in the peaceful waters of the lake, take the small wooden footbridge on your right and feel free to walk all the way around the lake. Then take the Sentier des Charbonniers (Charcoal Burners' Trail), marked by small directional posts and yellow lines painted on the trees. From there, you will learn about the ancient charcoal burners and their difficult work (there are numerous remains of kilns and information panels).
At Les Echauds, stay on the Sentier des Charbonniers, which descends to a fork in the path.
(3) Take the path on the right towards the Plateau de la Puce. A flatter path takes you back to a place called Bois de Chapareillan, where you will find the path you took on the way there, which you will now take in the opposite direction. You will come to a fork.
(4) Continue to the right on theGR® 965 to reach the Lac de la Puce car park (S/E).
