Park at the Chalet d’Arvières, an ONF lodge open to all, in the heart of the mountains.
(S/E) On leaving the ONF refuge, head to the right, retracing your steps along the forest track for about 800m. Pass the hairpin bend to the right, ignoring the path branching off to the left, and arrive at a junction with a car park on the right. At this junction, head straight ahead onto the path on the left signposted Charbemènes, Grand Colombier and Pin Daubrée..... Red and white markings.
(1) Leave the road and turn left onto the path leading to the Col de Charbemènes, a gradual, shaded climb. Pass close to the Sapin Daubrée and reach a crossroads of paths. Turn left to reach the pass (1,316 m). Enjoy the first view that opens up before you.
(2) Follow the signposted path heading south-west – this is still theGRP®® – which leads to the Grand Colombier cross (1,525 m), where there is an orientation table offering a magnificent 360° panorama of the Alpine ranges, Mont Blanc, Lake Bourget and the River Rhône.
(3) Continue towards the Col du Colombier car park.
(4) From the car park, head up the path leading to the summit of the Grand Colombier.
(5) From this point, turn back to return to the pass.
(4) Take the road on the left and head downhill to reach the first hairpin bend.
(6) Before the hairpin bend, cut across the fields (yellow markings on the kerb) to reach Les Granges du Colombier.
(7) Turn onto the path on the right and continue the descent. Return to the Col de Charbemènes.
(2) Turn left to rejoin the route taken on the way out. Return to the ONF lodge via the same route as on the way out (S/E).
