Parking is available in the large pay car park at Le Flon, at the top of the village of Miex. The road to Miex can be taken from Vouvry, a commune located between Le Bouveret and Monthey.
(S/E) Drive to the bottom of the car park. From there, there are two options for climbing up to Taney:
- Follow the tarmac road on the left, which is strictly regulated for vehicles and therefore has very little traffic. Stay on this very steep road and join the main route at the point (2).
- As shown on the map, take the Chemin des Chevriers on the right, a steep path, mostly covered by forest. After a sharp left turn, climb up a few switchbacks, keeping a general north-west then west direction. At the start of the tarmac road, turn right and continue on the path.
(1) Return to the tarmac road and turn right and then left to follow the path again, which winds around several times. Join the tarmac road and follow it to the left for about 30 metres. When the road turns right, continue straight ahead on a path that immediately turns right and climbs up a small dip.
(2) You will come out onto the road again and follow it to the left until you reach the Col de Taney (fountain on the left).
(3) Continue along the gently sloping road, with a beautiful view of Lac de Taney on your right. You will arrive in the centre of the hamlet, opposite the Le Grammont restaurant.
(4) Turn left and then right to take a path towards Grammont. The path passes behind the restaurant and winds its way up through the forest. At the junction with an alpine track, take the hairpin bend to the right. Continue through the forest until you come out onto the alpine pastures. The wide path continues north-west to the Crosses chalet.
(5) Continue climbing through the mountain pastures on the wide path, which makes three turns (right-left-right) before reaching an intersection.
(6) Then turn left onto the wide path. Climb steadily to the Col des Crosses, at the foot of the Petite Jumelle, a distinctive limestone tower located to the west.
(7) Continue north on the path that curves to the right and is fairly flat, with a steep corridor on the left called Tombeau des Allemands. You will arrive near the long Chalet de Voyis.
(8) Turn slightly right (do not go to the chalet) onto a path that climbs up a steep grassy ridge. The path then turns sharply right and then left.
(9) Turn right and follow the final ridge south-east to reach the summit, topped by a large cross visible from afar.
(10) The descent is via the same route as on the way up, in reverse, to the Col de Taney and then to the point (2).
(2) Here, there are two options:
- Continue straight ahead on the paved road to the car park (S/E).
- As shown on the map, take the Chemin des Chevriers on the right to reach the Flon car park (S/E).
