Douert and Mouët mountain pastures from Sevan Devant

A pretty circular route overlooking the Abondance valley with views of the Dents du Midi. A limited elevation gain and a two-level route with no difficulty. The alpine walk proposed here is both interesting and scenic.

Description of the walk

Departure from the Sevan Devant car park, accessible from the Chapelle d'Abondance. Follow the signs for Lac d'Arvouin via Chez les Thoules, then Le Rys and Bonnatrait. Cars can be parked at the side of the road (this is the end of the tarmac section).

(S/E) Continue along the road, east-northeast. Two mountain tracks appear immediately: take the one on the right, which descends towards Couty and Douert. Pass under the Braitaz chairlift line and arrive at a fork.

(1) Leave the track and follow the path on the left towards the Alpage de Douert.

(2) Ignore the path on your left and continue south to rejoin the track you left earlier.

(3) Follow it to the left for about 400 m.

(4) When the track turns left towards Couty, follow a path on the right towards Chalets de Douert. Descend through the forest to the chalets.

(5) Continue south towards Col de Saix and Barbossine dessous. Pass a large chalet on your left and climb up to Col de Saix.

(6) Then turn sharply left onto the path and descend towards Barbossine dessous. Ignore two paths on the left and leave the Flammet chalets on your right.

(7) Just before Barbossine dessous (signposts), turn sharply left. Climb almost straight up the slope towards Chalets du Mouët. Ignore all the paths that branch off to the right and continue on the main path until you reach Chalets du Mouët.

(8) Take thefirst path on the right (north-east), cross the group of chalets and, at a fork, take the path on the left that leads towards Sevan in front of you. Cross north-west, staying directly below the peaks on the right.

(9) At an altitude of 1,773 metres, ignore the path that descends to your left and continue north. You will come out onto an alpine track.

(10) Follow it to the left. Further on, pass under the Braitaz chairlift line and reach the car park (S/E).

The car park at the start of the route, on the side of the road, is often used as a starting point for the very popular Lac d'Arvouin.

Worth a visit

If this hike seems too short, you can extend it by climbing up to Lac d'Arvouin. You can also reach the ridges at the Chétillon, Recon or Conche passes, for example, with views of Switzerland.
Food and cheese sales at the Mouët chalets, where the chef specialises in Berthoud (a melted Abondance AOP cheese speciality).

A lovely walk in the sunshine at the beginning of November. You can enjoy a drink at the end of the climb to the Mouët mountain pasture, which offers a beautiful view of the peaks.

I enjoyed this hike, which we did as a family in October in sunny weather and ideal temperatures.
The description in the detailed information sheet is very clear and accurately reflects the terrain encountered.
There are many viewpoints overlooking the valley and surrounding peaks along the entire route.
The climb to the Mouët chalets is really steep, but once you reach the top, the view is well worth the effort and there is also a place to eat. From the chalet, the descent to the Sevan Devant car park follows a balcony path with another magnificent view of the valley.
A beautiful hike to do if you are in the area.

I'm glad you enjoyed the route. I'm sure it's even more pleasant in good weather!
We did part of it in the rain, but the welcome we received at the Mouët mountain pasture really lifted our spirits: warming up by the fire and eating in the shelter was the pleasant surprise of the day!

A very pleasant hike that allows you to escape the crowds on the way to Lake Arvouin!
Beautiful, comfortable paths and a few equally pleasant trails allow you to alternate between woodland and mountain pastures.
There are some beautiful views of the Dents du Midi, Mont Blanc and Mont de Grange.
The climb between the Flammet chalets and the Moutet chalets, although on a beautiful path, is a little tough, especially in the heat of summer, but it is quickly forgotten thanks to the view from the inn's terrace and the services it offers.
This hike must be particularly pleasant in the off-season.
