The last windmill in Montbrun-Lauragais, seen from Corronsac

A lovely circular route starting from Corronsac church to the Montbrun-Lauragais mill. Superb views of the Pyrenees beyond the farmland. Suitable for all walkers and families.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park in front of Corronsac town hall.

(S/E) With your back to the town hall, take the Chemin de Segueila, a road that passes near the school and then climbs. You will come to a crossroads.

(1) Turn right onto Chemin de la Serre and pass the Bellevue water tower.

(2) Turn right onto a dirt track which now runs on level ground. On the right, a panoramic view of the Pyrenees. You’ll reach the entrance to Tourrié.

(3) Continue along the same path, which may be drier than further on. Turn left and come out onto the D24 near some antennas.

(4) Cross it carefully, leaving Montbrun le Vieux on your left, and continue along the road. Before Loustalou, turn right onto a track that joins a road.

(5) Follow it to the right and arrive at a lake.

(6) Continue along the same road through Montbrun-Lauragais, where the mill is located.

(7) Continue along the road which joins the Corronsac road (D24); follow this to the right for about 200 m. Turn right and join a new road at a place called Lamotte.

(8) Turn right, then left at the first junction and continue to a fork.

(9) Leave this road and take a path on the left (GR®653), follow it alongside a stream and pass the sewage treatment plant.

(10) Turn right onto a path and start a short, steep climb up to the church at Corronsac.

(11) Turn right to return to Corronsac town hall (S/E).

A lovely route. Just a quick correction: at point 4, don’t follow the road; instead, take the path on the right, down below.
We cut the route short and there were no views that day. We’ll have to do it again when the weather’s better.

This hike suffers from a fundamental problem: the length of the tarmac stretch you have to endure, which is utterly uninteresting. For example: before reaching (5), it’s better to take the short, direct path to (7) – shown on the route map – which is far more pleasant than the road between (5) and (7), where you can’t even catch a glimpse of the lake. As for seeing the Pyrenees, you’d have to be optimistic: given the current weather conditions, it’s a pipe dream.
