Park your vehicle in the car park behind the church in Saillant, which has few spaces but is generally not very busy.
(S/E) Go to the centre of the village of Saillant and go up 20 metres to the right where you will see a Sully lime tree (1605). Take the road opposite the lime tree (heading west), leave it after 50 metres and leave the village by following the small road downhill to the left.
(1) 150m further down, at the exit of the village (before one or two isolated houses), take the path on the right. After 300m, cross the stream and immediately join a road.
(2) Take this road on the right, away from the hamlet of Merlonne, then turn left at the first intersection 50 m further on. Leave this small road and take the first track on the right, then take the path on the left at the fork that follows.
Keep on this path which descends to the left bank of the Ance, ignoring a path on the right halfway down. Follow this bank for 300 metres, leaving the bridge that leads to Rive d'Ance on your left, after which the path moves away from the riverbank and climbs north-east to reach the hamlet of Bostfranchet.
(3) At Bostfranchet, turn right onto the access road to the hamlet and after 250 m join the D139, which you follow to the left for 300 m.
(4) At the fork, take the small road on the left, which soon becomes a track. After 500 m, ignore the track on the left and immediately join the D139 on the right.
(5) Cross the road and take the small road opposite, which leads to two houses. Opposite the second building, turn right onto the path leading to the volcanic crater site.
(6) You will arrive at the site entrance (very well laid out) on the left: a cement path, then an educational trail and finally steps leading to the edge of the crater.
Leave the site at the upper viewpoint by taking the path on the right, go through the gate and continue straight ahead until you reach the first houses of the village of Montpeloux. Do not take the road on the right, unless you want to see a few houses.
(7) At the next crossroads, just after the last houses on the right, take the hairpin bend and turn right. Leave this road 80 metres further on and follow the track on the left. Very soon, this track turns south towards Saillant. Halfway along, ignore a track on the left that leads to the hamlet of Le Crozet.
(8) At the last crossroads 300m from Saillant, take the road almost opposite, still heading south, and drive alongside the cemetery on your left. You will come out behind the choir of the church and return to the car park where you started (S/E).
