The Col du Paradis from the Sainte-Anne Chapel

Discover the Paradis mountain pastures, above Saint-François-Longchamp, the bells of the cattle herds in the green summer pastures, with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains, the passage through the hamlet of La Perrière, then a return via the path through the Pézières Forest, with its complicated passages through muddy waterways or a tiny, vertiginous path. Beautiful emotions await you.

Description of the walk

Head to the Maurienne Valley, to La Chambre, take the Col de la Madeleine road (D213) towards Saint-François-Longchamp. After passing the hamlet of Le Planet, continue along the road, then take the small hairpin bend to the right towards the Chapelle Sainte-Anne. Park in the small car park in front of the chapel, which is the starting point for the hike.

(S/E) Head right behind the chapel towards the Paradis chalets, walking along the left side of the cemetery, and continue to the Combe du Loup fork.

(1) Turn left towards Montaimont, passing the Paradis chalets

(2) At Ville du Bois, continue straight ahead in the same direction.

(3) About twenty metres after a small building, turn right at a 90° angle and head towards a trail intersection near the Paradis chalets.

(4) Turn right towards Col de Paradis.

(5) At the pass, continue to the right towards Montaimont - La Perrière.

(6) At the fork, the trail is difficult to find with a double fence crossing: if you can't find it, continue on the very wide trail that branches off to the right, slightly uphill, then turns left to rejoin the trail.

(7) Cross the Ruisseau de Coat stream, continue south, and enter La Perrière, turning right towards the centre of the village.

(8) Take Route de la Perrière on the right and go around the Chapelle Saint-Antoine.

(9) Cross the bridge over the Ruisseau de Coat, enter the forest and continue north-west, then west.

(10) At Le Pertuis, take the small path on the right, heading north. Cross the forest and the Combe du Loup, and return to the first fork in the road on the way there.

(1) Continue straight ahead and, following the same route as on the way there, return to the Saint-Anne Chapel (S/E).

Notes

Hiking is strongly discouraged in rainy weather, especially on the Pézières Forest trail with its many streams to cross.
Bring good footwear, preferably waterproof; hiking boots are recommended.
The path is sometimes difficult to find from Col de Paradis towards La Perrière in the middle of pastures.
You are in the middle of nature, so bring water and food.
