The Forges route in Baguer-Morvan

Car park, Place de l'Église.

(S/E) Head towards the roundabout and continue left on Rue du Général de Gaulle until you reach the dead end in front of a car garage on the right.

(1) Turn left, continue along the path and you will come out onto Ruelle du Lavoir. Turn right and continue until you reach Rue du Petit Jardin.

(2) Turn left, cross the Ruisseau de la Hirlais stream and you will come out onto the D8 opposite a nursing home. Continue right towards the railway line and cross it. Watch out for trains. Continue along the road, ignore the path on the left (which will be the return route) and continue straight ahead until you reach the bend in the road.

(3) Continue right on Route de la Torche for about 1 km until you reach the intersection with the D80.

(4) Cross the road carefully and head towards the hamlet of Ville Feu.

(5) Go around this hamlet on the right to head north-east and continue along the sunken lane lined with oak trees to the hamlet of Le Portail des Forges.

(6) At the exit of the hamlet, take the road, pass Les Forges and turn right onto the path. Cross a stream and arrive at a place called Le Rocher.

(7) Turn left to reach Les Cours Paris and continue to the D8.

(8) Turn left, then immediately right onto a grassy path. In wet weather, this path is muddy, but passable (see practical information). After about 500 metres, take the path on the left which crosses a dirt bridge over a small stream.

(9) At the intersection, take the path on the right, which turns into a sunken lane until you reach a place called Le Petit Vaudoré, then follow the path that veers left until you reach a road.

(10) Follow it to the right, then turn onto the first dirt track on the left until you reach the D80.

(11) Turn right (the path between points 41 and 39 no longer exists), then take the first dirt track on the left. Continue towards the railway line, then turn left to rejoin the D80, which you follow to the right until you reach the junction with the D8.

(12) Turn right towards the village, then enter a cul-de-sac.

(13) At the end of the cul-de-sac, there is a grassy path on the left. Follow it to the road. Turn right to rejoin the railway line and continue along the road for 500 metres, passing a nursing home.

(14) At the crossroads, take the path opposite at the end of the low wall, which leads to a street on the left. Follow this street up to Rue du Commandant Lecossois, D119.

(15) Turn left onto this road to return to Place de l'Église (S/E).

The Museum of Rural Life is closed.

At point (8), if the path is truly impassable (it can happen), take the D8 on the left to arrive at point (12) with dry feet!
