Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the entrance to Roumengoux.

(S/E) From the car park, head left up into the village. Stay on the road, pass the church and reach an orientation table offering a magnificent view of the Tabe massif and Lagarde Castle.
Continue west along the road, past a picnic area, and ignore the sign for this route indicating a turn to the right.

(1) Carry on straight ahead; the road turns into a dirt track. At the next junction, turn left and you’ll reach the junction at the Fontaine de Bourrastel. Turn left for about 100 m to explore this fountain.

(2) Retrace your steps and follow the signs for “Les Séniès” heading north. Walk straight through the hamlet. Ignore the first sign pointing to a fountain on the left (in fact, there is no fountain in sight and the path is not maintained at all) and you will reach a junction with a signpost.

(3) Turn right (as indicated by the sign; however, a cross is visible, so do not rely on this) and continue left along the road until the next junction.
Pass a wayside shrine, stay on the road and join the greenway and the Fontaine de la Grand Borde.

(4) Take the greenway to the right until you reach the second bridge, where there is a signpost.

(5) Leave the cycle path and head downhill to the right towards Montengrand. (Take care, especially if you’re wearing shorts; this section is not maintained).
Join a road and follow it to the left. Cross the hamlet and head towards a signpost.

(6) Leave the road and turn right towards Roumengoux.
Pass the fountain, cross a stream and arrive at the hamlet of Borde de Faures.

(7) Continue straight ahead and join the road (D65).

(8) Take the road on the left, cross the hamlet, go straight on, and at the next junction, turn left onto the road leading to Roumengoux. Before finishing this walk by returning to the car park at the entrance to the village, pass another fountain, the “Pouteaux”, then finish this outing (S/E).

Notes

Video of the hike available at the following link: https://youtu.be/oD7AHCW7CrQ

Just before (3), a sign indicates a fountain on the left; there is none, and this section is dirty and poorly maintained.

Take care at (3), as the signposting is completely disorganised.

At the (5), the path is unkempt all the way to the road leading to Montengrand (avoid wearing shorts).

Worth a visit

The nearby Château de Lagarde is not open to visitors but offers activities in the summer.
The listed village of Camon (the only village in the Ariège with this status) is nearby.

An easy family walk; park at the entrance to the village on the left, where the ‘visitor car park’ is signposted. This is the most convenient way to reach the starting point on foot, as the streets are narrow and there is nowhere to park.

The fountains are more or less interesting, not always well maintained. The village is very cute, well maintained by its inhabitants. Beautiful views at the beginning, then a basic walk.

A lovely ride with a beautiful view of the Pyrenees at the start. A varied route featuring hills, fountains, a greenway and
a small pond
