Escueillens - Etang de la Pène, Bellegarde-du-Razès

Route proposed during Rando Razès 2025 (short loop). Easy, family-friendly circuit completed with Joëlette wheelchairs during the event. The only "difficulty" is the section along the road at points (8) and (9).

Description of the walk

Departure from the Pène pond in Escueillens (easy parking).

Follow the GRP® Tour du Razès signs

(S/E) With your back to the pond, turn right and cross the small bridge to reach the bend in the road.

(1) Climb up to the left towards the hamlet of La Pène. Turn right, then left twice to reach a path on the right at the exit of the village (an alternative route is possible, see practical information).

(2) Take this path on the right until the next intersection.
(3) Take the path on the left and continue to the intersection.

(4) Keep to the right. Cross the stream and keep to the left. Cross the Ruisseau d'Escueillens to reach the greenway.

(5) Cross over to the other side. Keep going until you reach the Escueillens town hall square and the beehive.

(6) Pass through the village of Escueillens-et-St-Just-de-Bélengard. Keep going straight ahead to leave the village and arrive at a fork in the road.

(7) Continue straight ahead, leaving the GRP®. Cross the Ruisseau des Vignes stream and continue straight ahead until you reach the road.

(8) Take the road on the right. The road is not very busy, but take care nonetheless. Then follow the road on the right under Bellegarde-du-Razes, which is busier. Continue to the greenway.

(9) Cross to pass under the greenway and return to the fields and vineyards. Follow the GRP® signs. Turn left along the track, then left again and right to the end, near the D63.

(10) Turn right. Keep going until you reach the pond. Follow the road to the left and rejoin the dyke on the right.

(11) Stay along the pond until you reach the car park (S/E).

Hello. I had already covered most of this route. All that remained was the Bellegarde-Escueillens section on the north side.
I didn't use the description at all. For those who know how to read a route on a map, it's no problem.
