The Chemin des Taillis in Ornézan

Starting from the rather charming village of Ornézan, the walking trail takes you up through the woods to the higher ground, offering lovely views of the rolling hills of the Gers. A pleasant little walk.

Description of the walk

Start in front of the town hall on the main road D929.

(S/E) With your back to the town hall, turn right, then take the first street on the right, passing in front of the church.

(1) At the junction, turn right onto Chemin de Saramon. Cross the bridge over the River Gers.

(2) At the next junction, keep to the right.

(3) At the four-way junction at a place called La Borde Blanche, continue straight ahead, still on Chemin de Saramon, until you reach a three-way junction. Turn right.

(4) Turn slightly to the right, passing the hamlet of Peyrebert. At the junction with the D104, cross with care and continue straight ahead. The track becomes a footpath at the hamlet of La Ticoulère. Stay on this footpath until you reach the junction with the Chemin de Monferran.

(5) Head straight ahead onto the Chemin de Monferran and continue to the right-angled bend. Turn right onto the dirt track and carry on straight along this track, going round the Pompeyrin farm and past the Bousquet farm. At the three-way junction after this farm, turn right and continue to the junction with the D104.

(6) Turn right and, after a few metres, turn left carefully and stay on this track until you reach the junction at the hamlet of La Borde Blanche.

(3) Turn left and continue along this track, which leads to the village of Ornézan. Cross the Gers bridge, then take the first road on the left, pass by the church and continue to the junction with the main D929 road. Turn left towards Ornézan town hall (S/E).

Beautiful views where the vegetation allows; the route climbs from the start, levelling off only halfway through, with the second half being a gentle descent (gentle uphill and downhill sections). At a place called Pompeyrin, there are lovely views of the Pyrenees; muddy conditions are possible depending on the weather; the roads are quiet.

At the end of May, there are plenty of stunning orchids in certain spots along the path. The walk is easy, even in hot weather, as there are plenty of shaded sections.

It took us 1 hour and 45 minutes; the estimated time is slightly overestimated.
