The path to the Durban mill

Starting from Orbessan, this circular route will take you on a journey of discovery through the rural heritage, such as the monumental fountain in Orbessan and the working windmill in Durban with its bread oven and bakery. There are some beautiful views of the Gers countryside and, in Durban, a 360° panorama. There is a bit of tarmac but very little traffic.

Description of the walk

Park near Place de la Fontaine in Orbessan.

(S/E) With your back to the town hall, take Rue du Village, then continue along Chemin de l'Arnantole until you reach a fork.

(1) Turn left to cross the hamlet, then turn left at a 90° angle to follow Chemin de la Tour. Continue along this dirt track until you reach the crossroads.

(2) Take the path on the left. At the next junction, turn right, then ignore the path on the left leading to the Au Bousquet farm. Follow the path on the right through the woods and continue to the tarmac road (Chemin de la Grange).

(3) Turn left onto this road and head towards the village of Durban. Reach the crossroads by the church, turn left to pass in front of the town hall and continue to the windmill.

(4) Retrace your steps, walk past the church on the left, then keep to the right, ignoring the road on the left leading to Toulousette. Continue the circular route by following the Chemin de Las Tutos downhill and carry on along the path to the junction with the road called Chemin du Cédon.

(5) Turn right. At the next junction, continue right again and stay on this track for 2 km, ignoring the various paths branching off on either side. Pass in front of the Bourdette hillside reservoir, leave the track leading to the farm on your right and join a path on the right.

(6) Turn right onto this grassy track to go round the farm. At the crossroads of dirt tracks after the farm, turn right and take the uphill dirt track. Leave the farm on your right and continue to the next crossroads.

(7) Turn right and rejoin the path you took on the way there.

(2) Continue straight on, following the reverse route of the outward journey to return to Orbessan, Place de la Fontaine (S/E).

Very nice hike, even though we couldn't see the Pyrenees from Durban because it was cloudy...
However, there are quite a few paths with tall grass at the moment, which isn't a problem in dry weather but be careful if it rains...
And thanks again to Dill...

A lovely route, with a view stretching over 300 km across the Pyrenees from the Durban mill!
Definitely worth a go.

An easy walk that doesn’t require a GPS, as the route description and signposting are excellent. The scenery is pleasant and typical of the Gers. The route often follows small paths and a few quiet roads, and is particularly enjoyable in the shoulder seasons.
