Description of the walk

Park in the town hall car park.

(S/E) From the town hall, head towards the wayside cross, walking along the verge of the D626b road towards Lombez-Samatan. Take care – this is a busy road.

(1) When you reach the first silos, follow the tarmac track to the right, which quickly becomes a farm track. Walk alongside the Little Touch for 1 km and turn right towards the silos.

(2) At the D23 road, turn right, follow this road for 200 m, then turn onto the Chemin d’Arnautole. Walk past the buildings on the right and head up alongside the field to reach the tarmac track to Guillemole.

(3) Continue for 1 km to the right until you reach the junction with the Chemin d’Augé, passing the Sanarthès farm.

(4) Turn right onto the tarmac road, which soon gives way to a dirt track leading down to the village of Pouy-de-Touges.

(5) In the village, at the war memorial, turn right to head back towards the town hall (S/E).

to extend this route by about 2 km, we carried on along the D626B from the start, then took the D83 to La Forgue, and followed the ‘discovery trail’ to reach the Petit Touch (between points 1 and 2). Crossing the Touch on the GR86 was tricky: half the group took off their shoes to wade across (with 30 cm of water over a 5-metre stretch), whilst the other half crossed via one of the metal footbridges (balancing skills required!). After this section, which was a little too tricky for our liking, we followed the marked route and encountered another surprise between points 2 and 3: the path running alongside the buildings on the right, although clearly marked in yellow, was blocked by electric fences. We managed to get through anyway by lowering the wires with our walking stick to reach the tarmac road to Guillemole. Worth noting are the beautiful views of the Pyrenees on this 7–8 km circular route.
