Park near the village hall in Bonson, our starting point.
(S/E) To the left of the town hall, at marker no. 20, take the tarmac road leading uphill called Allée de la Fuont. Walk a few dozen metres (toilets and water available on the left).
Yellow markings
(1) Turn left at wooden marker post no. 20, towards “Baisse du Collet / climbing site”. This paved slanting street, very well preserved in its upper section, climbs gradually. On the right, the rocky massif of Collet Saint-André. You’ll reach wooden signpost no. 28, which indicates “Baisse de Collet Saint-André” at an elevation of 606 metres.
(2) You will see the ruins of the Chapelle Saint-André, of which only two walls remain. Turn left towards Revest-les-Roches and follow the wooded path. Part of the path has been altered following a landslide, but a new path allows you to bypass it. Head for the small pass of Sausses, at elevation 626 – marker 38.
(3) Walk alongside the water reservoir and head towards the bend in the Route de Gilette.
(4) Turn right onto the concrete track, which climbs for about twenty metres, then turn left onto the path leading uphill until you reach a road: end of the yellow markings.
(5) Continue straight on along the signposted path, which turns into a trail heading towards Revest-les-Roches.
(6) Take the path on the right and head down towards Le Clot, following the markings. At the north-east corner of this house, look for an EDF wooden post. There, the descending path starts on the right. On this path, the terraces give a glimpse of a traditional farming way of life. You will come across the yellow markings and marker 35.
(7) Turn right towards Le Villar - Vallon des Hirondelles. You will reach a crossroads.
(8) Turn right: be careful, the yellow markings are not very visible here. You will reach a crossroads at marker 36, known as Le Villar: end of the yellow markings.
(9) Turn left onto the unmarked path which leads, after about 200 m, to a magnificent oak tree designated on 27 September 2014.
(10) Pass to the right of the trunk; the path continues directly behind this distinctive tree. You are now in the Vallon des Hirondelles. You will reach a junction where the path meets a stream.
(11) Cross over and continue; the pleasant, damp part of the valley ends here. The path continues and descends over a few scree slopes. It then crosses the little-known Canal du Gabre via a bridge. After following the Var river, you’ll reach the footbridge spanning it, marking the end of the path.
(12) Turn back and head up the path to marker 36 Le Villar: the yellow markings resume.
(9) Turn left and head for the Baisse du Collet Saint-André, which you passed on the way out.
(2) Continue straight on towards Bonson in the opposite direction to the outward journey until you reach the car park (S/E).
