Park on the M17 road: the Villars pass is very steep and the spaces at the top are mainly reserved for residents. There are a few spaces along the road as you leave Gilette.
Followthe yellow markings throughout the hike, even though they are less visible in some places.
(S/E) Continue along the road towards Villars, reaching the crossroads at marker 14.
(1) Take the tarmac road on the left that supports the trail. Then continue on the trail to reach marker 15.
(2) Turn right and continue up the fairly steep climb to reach the right bank of the Ravin de Li Baus stream.
(3) Continue climbing; the markings are not very visible here. Turn left to enjoy the view. Then continue and cross the stream. Follow it on the left bank to reach marker 53.
(4) Here you have two options:
- take the path on the left towards the summit of Mont Lion, then return to the crossroads,
- descend to the right via the path marked Tour du Mont Lion. Be careful, it is very steep and may be muddy if it has rained recently.
You will reach a large field. Cross it and you will arrive at the junction marked by marker 50.
(5) Turn left at a 90° angle and continue along the flat main path. You will reach the junction marked 51.
(6) Turn left again at a 90° angle. Continue and find marker 52, then continue for a few metres to find a new crossroads at a place called Berlet.
(7) Take the almost flat path on the left, then climb slightly to reach a high point.
(8) Continue downhill to find the crossroads at marker 15.
(2) Turn right and retrace your steps to return to the car park on the M15 road (S/E).
