The start of this descent takes us through the summer pastures, where we come across numerous herds.
Please note: the trail is sometimes a little difficult to find and navigate due to the numerous herds passing through (water, mud, rutted ground, multiple tracks created by the animals, etc.). Look out for the trail markers to follow the route.
The landscape is magnificent, however: pine trees, mountain pastures and the surrounding mountains.
The descent then continues to San Marti d’Envalls (a magnificent Romanesque chapel), but the landscape gradually changes as you enter the fir woods and then the deciduous forest. A superb forest!
(S) From Lac des Bouillouses, take theGRP®® du Tour du Carlit (Yellow and Red) again to head towards Cerdagne via the Angoustrine Valley.
(1) After the lake, turn left.
(2) After the chapel, leave the Angoustrine Valley and follow a wide forest track (still markedGRP®®) to the ridge above Les Escaldes and Dorres. Reach the Nartigues shelter, which offers a sweeping view of Cerdagne from the Nartigues hut.
(3) Begin a steep descent to reach Les Escaldes (a former sanatorium in ruins).
Take care on the eroded path.
(4) Turn right onto the D10, which also follows the GRP®®route. Make a short detour via the Dorres thermal baths.
(5) Cross Dorres then begin another climb up to Coll de Juell (a steep 100m ascent), following theGRP®® markings as well as detailed local signposts.
(6) Continue downhill to Brangoli, a beautiful little hamlet, then on to the dolmen at the edge of the path.
(7) Return to theGRP®® to cross the hamlet of Feners. On leaving the hamlet, the path climbs again and joins the road leading to the bottom of the valley at Mas de Franc (E).
