From Les Bouillouses to Lac d'Aude

A wild route to the source of the Aude (or Auda) river, starting from the iconic Lac des Bouillouses. On the agenda: breathtaking views of the Carlit and even the Canigó, streams to cross, pine forests, wide open spaces and, of course, lakes.
Please note that access to Les Bouillouses is restricted (check with the departmental council or the Pyrénées Catalanes tourist office).

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the foot of the dam.

(S/E) From the car park, head west to reach the end of the dam and pick up the GR®10.

(1) Follow the GR®10 (red and white markings) along the lake for 4 km, with occasional breathtaking views of Lac des Bouillouses. You will come to the intersection with Pla de la Têt.

(2) Leave the GR®10, which heads into the Vallée de la Grave, and pick up the red and yellow markings for the GRP® du Capcir, which heads right towards Les Camporells. Further on, cross the Têt via a footbridge.

(3) Continue on the GRP® trail, ignoring the side paths. Later, cross the Ruisseau du Puig Peric via a footbridge before reaching an intersection.

(4) Ignore the direction of Les Camporells, which heads north, and continue the Lac d'Aude loop by heading towards Mont Llaret. The landscapes continue to improve and Lac des Bouillouses offers some fantastic views. Reach the intersection of Corrals del Llaret.

(5) Leave the direction of Mont Llaret and turn right towards Lac d'Aude (Estany d'Auda).

(6) Take advantage of this wild spot to stop for a picnic and admire the Canigó before setting off again to complete this beautiful loop. Continue slightly uphill towards the south-west before a steep descent punctuated by magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. Further on, rejoin the D60 road.

(7) Follow it to the right for about 2 km until you reach the Les Bouillouses car park (S/E).
