Start from the car park just upstream of the Rieu Claret bridge, on the border between Isère and Savoie on the D926, which connects Allemont to the Col du Glandon via the Vallée de l'Eau d'Olle.
(S/E) Cross the bridge and turn right onto the path climbing straight up the north-west slope, on the right bank of the Rieu Claret stream. Halfway up the slope, at around 1935 m, at a large cairn, turn left for an ascending traverse leading to the ruins of Le Sollier.
(1) Continue straight ahead, south then south-west, along the path, alternating between traverses and steeper climbs, until you reach a grassy threshold on the ridge descending from Rocher Pilliozan.
(2) After the view of Grand-Maison, take the path that climbs steeply to the right of the ridge to a gap.
(3) Cross this small pass and descend a few dozen metres to find easier terrain to climb, among the rounded rocks interspersed with grassy areas, until you reach the barrier closing off the Lac cirque.
The path is less well marked in this area, but regular cairns provide useful guidance.
(4) Descend towards the lake, using the easiest sheep tracks.
(5) The lake can be easily circumnavigated, offering a variety of views: the very edge of the lake is not accessible along its entire length. So don't hesitate to climb a little higher onto the ridges overlooking the lake, particularly on its southern shore and then on its north-eastern shore
(5) The return journey follows the same route, passing by the Rieu Claret car park (S/E).
