The Roman road starting from Vinols and passing through the village of Bard

Park in the car park near the boules court.

(S/E) Follow the Route du Leat des Espagnols to the left. Take the second small road on the right (Allée du Puy Chavant), which turns into a dirt track. Go round the sewage treatment plant, head down to Le Cotayet and cross it. Follow the path that climbs immediately to the right up to Granger.

(1) Take the tarmac road on the right. Pass through La Perrière.

(2) At the crossroads, head down the dirt track to the right until you reach the tarmac road. Cross it and take the path leading uphill opposite, through the ‘garolles’ woods. Cut across a path and head up to Le Romanet.

(3) Turn onto the small road on the right. Pass the turn-off to Le Romanet on your right, then take the path on the right just before the tennis courts to go round Malleval. 

(4) After walking alongside the hamlet, ignore the first path that turns off to your right and continue uphill. At the flat stretch, take the path on the left to begin a steep climb, cross the D113 and follow the path straight ahead. After about 100 m, turn left to reach a housing estate and walk alongside it until you reach the iron cross. 

(5) Head up to the right along the small tarmac road (Chemin Gavot) which leads to the last houses in the housing estate. Continue along a path lined with low stone walls until you reach the flat stretch at the edge of a field. 

(6) Take the main path on the left, until you reach the small road (Montée du Pic). 

(7) Head downhill to the left. Cross the D113 to reach the square and continue to Saint-Jean Church.

(8) Return to the D113, cross it again and rejoin the route by following the small road opposite to return to the previous junction. 

(7) Carry on straight ahead along the road, pass the water tower and continue to the cross. 

(9) Turn onto the path on the right, passing the track on the left which leads to Les Grangères. Carry on straight ahead, go down to the Cotayet bridge, go back up and cross the road (D113-2) carefully to take the path opposite.

(10) At the road, turn left, then keep to the right at the stone cross, heading towards Prassouroux. Once you reach the bend, take the path on the left and continue to the hamlet of Fougerolles. 

(11) Turn right onto the road towards Sagne l’Allier. After 50 metres, take the path leading uphill to the left and continue to the wooden signposts at the crossroads. 

(12) Take the old Roman road on the right, towards Contéol. Carry on until you reach the tarmac road.

(13) Turn right onto it for 50 m, then turn left. Follow this road, then take the path that winds down between the houses on the left. Continue along it to the right and take the first path on the left to Moulin Palais.

(14) Follow the road downhill for about 200 m and, at the crossroads at the end of the hamlet, take the small road opposite, towards La Rochette. 

(15) At the farm, turn onto the track on the left, go round the Puy de Montfroment to the south and rejoin the tarmac road. Continue along the Chemin de Montfroment. 

(16) At the end of the track, turn right onto the road leading downhill (Montée de Bellevue). Cross the D113 to reach the car park (S/E).
