Description of the walk

(S/E) The start is at the small car park next to the Goihena mill. Follow the road along the Susselgue stream, keeping to the right-hand lane, passing the fish farm and a second mill.

(1) Turn right and continue up the tarmac road to reach Bordaberria.

(2) Turn left onto the path that winds its way up through the forest. The entire ascent is along this wide path, which is accessible to both two- and four-wheeled vehicles.

(3) At the three-way junction, turn right, continue along the track that runs alongside a small gorge and resume the climb.

(4) At the next fork, keep slightly to the left and finish the climb after passing a hut on the right.

(5) To the left, for those who fancy it, is Pic Losco. Our path takes us to the right, along the ridges, to the Harriauzkia house.

(6) Continue to follow the path along these ridges, with Pic Harribeltzeta in view to the north-west. The path becomes a track up to the peak but remains very easy to follow.

(7) From the peak, simply take the path that descends south-west at first, then, after a hairpin bend, descends steeply north-north-east, then east. Just stay on this path, which goes round a few houses.

(2) Follow the final section of the route in the opposite direction to the outward journey to return to the car park (S/E).

Easy hike, done on Thursday, 7 August. Very pleasant temperature.
A quiet path. No Patous, so no danger from the flocks, which we must respect.
Pleasant chat with the shepherdess at the sheepfold.
This hike can easily be done with the family in a day

An easy hike along a very smooth road (suitable for a standard 4x4), at least as far as point number 5: the presence of a flock with two aggressive mountain dogs forced me to turn back. The return journey from D to 5 to A takes less than 4 hours.

Thanks for the suggestion. It’s an interesting route, but starting at the Bordaberria farm saves time and reduces the elevation gain. There are a lot of dead trees on the lower part of the route – fire, storm? Losko Peak isn’t really a peak… For Hilague or Igountze, drive to point 7 and follow the route in reverse.

The starting point is a few hundred metres past the exit from the village of Licq, heading towards Sainte-Engrace. The road is easily passable, but there is a risk of oncoming traffic. I followed it all the way to the end, as the intermediate parking spaces were occupied by locals. I walked down the road, then followed the obvious route in good weather, checked against a GPS track. Beautiful scenery at this time of year. The walk took 3 hours 40 minutes, including taking a few photos, having a snack and checking the map.
In good weather, I’ll return to climb up to the pass and then on to Pic Hilague, following the ridge from the start
