Description of the walk

Start at Place de l'Église.

(S/E) Walk past the church on your right along a narrow path to reach Chemin de Paris, then follow this tarmac road uphill.

(1) Turn right to reach the Croix à Baptiste near an electricity substation (on this path you will see a statue of the Virgin Mary on your left).

(2) Facing the cross, turn right towards the Croix Bastard.

(3) As you approach the cross, turn left just before the junction towards Le Bosquet. Further on, turn left and leave a path on your right.

(4) Turn onto a path on the left and follow it to the end.

(5) Turn right and continue to the D79.

(6) Cross the road and continue straight on along the path opposite.

(7) After 1.2 km on this path, turn left towards the Bois des Vignes. Ignore a path on the right and continue straight on along the Côte à Chien. Enter Nesles-la-Vallée via the Chemin de Vaumain. At the junction, keep left into Rue du Chenival and follow it for about 300 m.

(8) Turn left onto Chemin du Chenival (square concrete slabs) and, at the top of the short climb, at the junction, continue right onto Chemin des Ormes de la Pointe until you reach the D79. Follow it to the left.

(9) Take the first path on the right (Chemin de la Roche Baude), go past the stadium and continue straight on for 1 km until you reach the T-junction.

(10) Follow Chemin de Mézières (detached house) to the left until you reach Croix à Baptiste.

(2) Head downhill to the right to rejoin Chemin de Paris.

(1) Turn left to return to the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Labbeville has two listed buildings within its boundaries.
• Saint-Martin Church.
• Château de Labbeville, Rue du Moulin / Rue du Château. Geoffroy Lhuillier, son of Jean Lhuillier, provost
of the merchants of Paris, had this château built on the fief of Tourly in the early 17th century.

(1) Statue of the Virgin Mary.
Erected in 1946, this statue commemorates two dates in the history of Labbeville:

  • 20 January 1668, to give thanks that the village was spared from a plague epidemic.
  • 30 August 1944, to give thanks that the explosion of an ammunition depot during the liberation of Labbeville caused no loss of life.

(2) and (3) The crosses: these crosses were erected by the quarrymen at the end of their time working in the quarry when they retired.

A circular route covering roughly half the distance between 1 and 7, which I included in a hike starting from Valmondois. A lovely stretch. A little bonus: at (1), you can turn left onto a track that leads straight to a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the Sausseron, complete with a map marker. I recommend this walk; it’s not very difficult.

It’s not easy to review this route, but I’ll try to focus on the positives.
28 July 2020. The wheat and rapeseed fields have already been harvested. The winds on these plains are still blowing.
The paths are flat and pleasant to walk on. At this time of year: nothing but walking, walking, walking with nothing to see. One highlight... seeing this magnificent ‘statue of the Virgin’.
My opinion...
In summer, during a heatwave... no
In winter, when it’s windy… no
What remains: moderate temperatures, no wind; and may nature be at its best.
Best regards

The only highlight of this walk is the church at the start. ...otherwise, just a high-voltage pylon... fields and woods...

I'm from the area and I was able to take a detour along the way. Interesting.

I’m glad I was able to show you this route, which, thanks to the freezing weather of the last few days, is surely less muddy than it was previously.
Kind regards

Hello, and thank you for this walk, which I did on a bitterly cold day under a beautiful sun.
Although I don’t usually care much for flat terrain, I really enjoyed this route.
The description, duration and quality of the route are perfect.
Thank you
Xavier
