La Redonne

La Chapelle-Huon developed gradually from the Middle Ages onwards. Saint-André Church is a Romanesque building (11th–12th century) with a Renaissance seigneurial chapel added later. The current bell tower was built in 2000 as part of the building’s general restoration. On this occasion, contemporary stained-glass windows were added to enhance the interior. Saint-Gervais-de-Vic likely has very ancient origins. The place name ‘Vic’, from the Latin vicus, meaning village, may refer to the Gallo-Roman period. Iron slag and pottery shards, discovered during work on the railway line, are also evidence of an ancient presence. Admire the15th- and16th-century Manoir de la Béchuère, the Redonne stream and the beautiful wooded countryside.

Description of the walk

Park in the Grands Bois car park.

(S/E) From the Grands Bois car park in La Chapelle-Huon, walk back 100 metres and take the path on the right leading to the Croix Bourgueil.

(1) When you reach the road, turn right and, at the crossroads, take the path across the fields opposite. Continue to the Route de la Tannerie.

(2) Take the road on the left to the Fontaine du Frêne, then take a sharp right onto a natural path that crosses a stream. Head up to the Barre aux Odeaux.

(3) Head back down into the valley, first turning right then left along a sunken path, to emerge onto a small road.

(4) Turn right twice before entering the Bois de Bon Refuie. Continue left at the edge of the woods and enjoy a view of La Buderie (an old half-timbered farmhouse).

(5) At the pond, continue straight ahead, crossing the road. Then keep right at the junction to rejoin the road.

(6) Cross the road and, at the end of the path, take a quick first turn left then right before crossing the A-road.

(7) On reaching Feumusson, continue along the path. Then carry on towards La Jugerie.

(8) Join the GR®235 and follow it to the right as far as La Musardière (passing through a farmyard). Continue to the right.

(9) Continue to the right, still on the GR®235. At La Guenivière, go through the two gates and close them behind you. Shortly afterwards, the path overlooks the Manoir de la Béchuère on the left.

(10) Cross the D74 (take care), and continue on the GR®235, opposite, along the long Chemin de la Petite Béchuère, which leads to the car park (S/E).
