Along the banks of the Tusson towards Val-d'Etangson

Val-d’Étangson is a new commune formed in 2019 from the merger of the communes of Évaillé and Sainte-Osmane. Possibly first mentioned as early as the9th century, the village on the banks of the Tusson consisted in 1829 of nothing more than the church, the18th-century presbytery with its courtyard and garden, and around fifteen houses. It expanded after 1840, no doubt linked to the opening of the road connecting the two sub-prefectures of La Flèche and Saint-Calais (now the D13).

Description of the walk

Start at the church square, where there are parking spaces.

(S/E) From the church square, walk between the church and the town hall, then turn left at the cemetery.

(1) Follow the D13 to the right and, before leaving the village, take the path on the right behind a house.

(2) At the end of the path, continue straight on along the path that runs alongside the hedge and the field, then turn left onto the road.

(3) Before the ford, take the stony path on the right. Then pass La Basse Fosse before turning left onto the road. 250 metres further on, take the path on the right and pass Villée.

(4) Take the first path going uphill to the right before the hamlet of Le Gué. Then, after La Challière, take the road to the left.

(5) At the junction with the D58, continue left, walk 300 metres along the verge (viewpoint over Cogners Castle) and take the path on the right running alongside the two fields. Pass La Baumerie and continue straight on.

(6) At the junction with the road, take the path opposite.

(7) When you reach the road, turn right onto it and then cross the hamlet of Les Bouts de Rallé. At the crossroads, turn left, then join the road.

(8) Take the road opposite. Continue for 150 metres and turn onto the path on the right. Pass the first path on the left, take the
second, then the first on the right and right again to reach La Gate. Take the Plisson road on the left, which leads to the D63.

(9) Follow the D63 to the right and take the D13 to the right (take care) to reach the village (S/E).
