On arriving in Villars-les-Bois, you will find the church overlooking the valley. The walk starts here, with a picnic area below where you can park and have a bite to eat.
Upon entering the church, a booklet is available featuring this walk, entitled "La Nature en Héritage"; a second route, the "Circuit des vignes", is also available. Before setting off, do take a moment to visit the orientation table by walking along the roadside of the church – a beautiful panorama awaits you.
(S/E) Head towards the village via Rue de l'Église. The route is marked in green. Continue to the hamlet known as Chez les Grelots.
(1) Take the road downhill on your left and continue to the wash house on your left: there is a picnic area there.
(2) At the wash house, turn left and, at the fork, turn right. You will then find a path on your left leading to a tarmac road. First turn right then left and continue along a dirt track that runs past several houses. At the fork, turn left until you reach a road (Rue de la Mairie): on your left is the village bread oven.
(3) Then turn right, walk past the town hall and head towards the "Jardin de Liane". At the bend in the road, turn right, cross the hamlet of Chez les Bellots and follow this road until it joins the D731.
(4) Cross the main road to take a path directly opposite. Pass to the left of the hamlet of Mont Bergère, where you’ll find a road. Further on, cross another road and arrive at Berlouze, where a wash house lies below.
(5) Turn right onto a shaded path and cross the Bois de Madame. You’ll reach the D229; take it to the right. Pass a crossroads to reach Fontbelle, where, if you turn right, you’ll find a wash house and a picnic area. To continue the walk, turn back
(6) Continue to the right through the village of Fontbelle until you reach the bend.
(7) Turn left where a path leading into the woods awaits you. Follow it to the D731.
(8) Turn left, then right at a picnic area. Continue along this road and take a short detour to the left where a beautiful view awaits you. Retrace your steps and, back on the road, turn left. Turn right at the fork, then left at the next fork to follow Rue de la Forge. Continue until you reach the left-hand bend.
Take the dirt track uphill on your right: you will find a bench on your right. You will come out onto a local road; turn left towards the Salle des Fêtes.
(1) At the fork from the outward journey, continue straight ahead and retrace your steps along the outward route back to the church (S/E).
