Description of the walk

Free car park at the Wangenbourg-Engenthal Tourist Office Rue du Général De Gaulle (D624).

(S/E) With your back to the car park, turn left along Rue du Général de Gaulle for about 500 metres until you reach Rue du Panorama, which climbs steeply to your left, just after the war memorial.

(1) Begin the ascent along this tarmac road for a few hundred metres until you reach the junction with Rue des Châtaigniers, which comes in from the right.

(2) A few metres further on, turn onto the GR®53 on your right, marked with a red rectangle, to reach a fork after about 500 metres.

(3) Ignore the GR®531 marked with a blue rectangle on your left, which is the way back, and continue on the GR®53 on the right, which climbs steeply. After about 600 metres, the GR®53 trail turns right.

(4) Leave the forest road and stay on the GR® to reach a new forest road. Follow it straight ahead for a few dozen metres.

(5) Leave the forest road and first turn right then left, heading south to quickly reach the Col du Schneeberg.

(6) Turn left, still following the GR®53, to arrive 600 m further on at the junction of a path on your right, which climbs to the top of the mountain (Lottelfels).

(7) Follow the path to the right and climb to the summit, which you will reach in about ten minutes. Enjoy the view and the orientation table.

(8) Turn around and return to the previous junction.

(7) Turn right, following the Red Cross markings to reach the Schneeberg Refuge.

(9) Leave the GR®53, which branches off to the right, and turn left, following the Red Cross markings. Descend about 500 m to the junction with the GR®531 Blue Rectangle.

(10) Follow the GR®531 on your left, cross a forest road, then a second one a little further on. Continue to follow the blue rectangle markings on the forest road to the left and you will reach the Flohhütte shelter in a right-hand bend.

(11) Continue to the right on the path, still descending. Continue on the GR®531 downhill to reach the junction with the GR®53.

(3) Continue straight ahead on the GR®53 downhill to reach the tarmac junction with Rue des Châtaigniers.

(2) Go down the tarmac road on the right and you will reach Rue du Général de Gaulle 300 m further on.

(1) Turn right and follow the street to return to the car park at the tourist office (S/E).
