Description of the walk

Departure from the "Chez Cécile" inn (restaurant, hotel, grocery store and warm welcome) in the village of Grande Verrière.

(S/E) Opposite the grocery store door, head towards Autun via the Route du Haut-Folin. On the right is a pretty private château. Continue until you reach the Grande Verrière school.

(1) Walk past the school and turn left behind the square onto Rue des Tilleuls (drinking water, toilets, shower, information point). Continue straight ahead, then turn left in front of the cemetery onto Rue de la Croix de Maine. The road turns into a path and leads to a cross.

(2) Turn right. At a place called Vers les Bois, go straight ahead then left twice, following the yellow marked path. You will arrive at a road.

(3) Take this road on the right, with a view of the Roches de Glenne (unmarked, private and potentially dangerous depending on the weather). You will arrive at the Glenne junction.

(4) Follow the GR® de Pays (red and yellow) to the left. Follow this path straight ahead for more than 1 km until you reach a crossroads (elevation 542).

(5) Take the track on the right, then straight ahead and left, without leaving the GR® de Pays, until you reach Crot Morin (accommodation at La Rivière).

(6) Take the small road on the left at the cross, without leaving the GR® de Pays, then the path on the right and, at the road, on the left. Continue straight ahead to Genetouse (picnic, brasserie).

(7) Keep going straight ahead. At the cross, turn right onto the path, cross the road straight ahead and continue along the Méchet, which accompanies the walk.

(8) Continue straight ahead, following the yellow markings to Saint-Prix (accommodation). Pass behind the church on the right, then turn left to the pub.

(9) Turn right onto Chemin de Pierre Perthuis and pass behind the town hall. Continue straight ahead and quickly continue along a path. At the small road, turn left immediately, following the red and yellow markings, and continue to La Planche.

(10) Cross the hamlet on the left and continue to Villechaise (accommodation).

(11) Go straight ahead, then turn left, right and finally left at the cross, without ever leaving the red and yellow marked path. Take the path parallel to the road on the right, passing in front of a large building (lodge).

(12) Follow the path uphill to the north, then left to the road.

(13) Continue left and pass in front of the European Archaeological Centre, which welcomes researchers from Bibracte.Opposite, there is a beautiful view of Mont Beuvray, and sometimes you can see Mont Blanc. Cross Glux-en-Glenne by going straight down (the highest village in Burgundy, with water, toilets, accommodation and a restaurant).

(14) Pass in front of the church, take the big bend to the right (picnic spot), then take the GR®13 which climbs to the right of the road. Follow it straight ahead then to the left until you reach Route à l'Eschenault (walk on the right-hand side of the road). Follow it to the right towards Beuvray.

(15) Climb up Chemin du Beuvray, then take thefirst path on the left. Continue straight ahead and pass behind the Bibracte Museum. Finally, turn left between Le Chaudron and the museum to reach the car park (museum, restaurant in season, toilets, picnic area) (S/E).
