Park at the Col de la Charmette car park, which can be reached via Proveysieux and Pomarey (D105).
Take the road to the Chalet de la Charmette.
(S/E) At the Chalet, just above the car park, look for the two distinct tracks that start there. Take the one on the right, which climbs the steep ramp of the Pas de l'Âne.
(1) Just after this, you will come to a junction where you can either:
- towards the Hurtières gorge on the left,
- towards the Cols de la Vache on the right.
Take the second option on the right until you come to a small dip in the path where you will find another intersection.
(2) A wooden sign on a tree indicates that the Col de la Petite Vache is straight ahead. In fact, you need to turn left. The track leads, via a series of small climbs and flat sections, to the Col de la Grande Vache.
From here, the landscape opens up spectacularly onto magnificent mountain pastures.
(3) Descend to the Col de la Sure, clearly visible below.
(4) Climb up just opposite to tackle the beautiful ascent of the Grande Sure. The path is relatively well marked and cairns mark the route to the top. After climbing the shoulder above the Col de la Sure, you will reach grassy and stony slopes.
(5) Turn left to reach a sort of pass marked by deep craters near the ridges. Then follow the ridge southwards to reach the summit of the Grande Sure.
(6) Descend from the summit via the same route to the Col de la Sure.
(4) Follow the sign for Cul de Lampe downhill to the left.
(7) Before Cul de Lampe, take the path on the right to reach the Col de la Charmille.
(8) Ignore the path opposite and the one that descends into the valley you have just come from. Take the path on the right, which climbs gently to the Col de la Petite Vache.
(9) Turn east to enter the Génieux forest. The track is easy to follow. You will soon come to the intersection of the two passes you encountered on the way up.
(2) Follow the same route as on the way up to return to the car park at the Col de la Charmette (S/E).
