Park on the D279, after Syam, heading towards La Billaude, at the start of the hike, on the left after the bridge over the Saine. White, red and yellow markings.
(S/E) Turn your back to the departmental road and take the "chemin interdit sauf riverain" (path prohibited except for residents) towards Chaux-les-Crotenay. At the nearby fork, turn right onto the gravel road.
(1) When the path begins to descend, take a sharp left turn to continue climbing. After a short climb, join a gravel road, turning left and following the Étang des Perchettes.
(2) Immediately after the pond, at the signpost, head back into the woods via the gravel path on the right.
(3) After another climb, the path reaches a small plateau at a triangular crossroads. Turn left to make a round trip to the Grande Cheminée.
(4) Be careful! If you glance quickly at the trail, you will think that the path continues, disappearing into this picturesque stone arch. Don't be fooled into going there. These few metres of stone in this damp place look slippery and treacherous to me, and it would be very stupid to break your back to avoid these two short trips to the chimney.
So turn back quietly.
(3) Turn left and take the small tarmac road, descending to the left towards the Pré Grillet viewpoint.
(5) When it turns sharply to the right, look for the path on the left that takes you back and forth to the foot of beautiful cliffs and back to the Grande Cheminée (below), which you can climb up using log steps.
(5) On your way back, still following the curve, take the path on the left towards the viewpoint. Return to the bend and descend about 50 metres before turning left again into the woods towards the Taiclet viewpoint. Stay on this well-marked yellow trail.
(6) After the second viewpoint, you will begin to descend, joining a gravel forest road. Follow it downhill to the left (towards Syam - Les Prés Grillets).
(7) Just before this road forks, take a path on the left. If you miss it, turn left at the next fork. The path becomes a little less pleasant and leads to a small paved road, which you take to the left. It runs alongside the river.
(8) Just before returning to the car park, you can take a path on the right at the edge of the Saine to cool off (S/E).
At point (4), if you look quickly at the trail, you will think that the path continues, rushing into this picturesque stone arch. Do not be foolhardy enough to go there, as these few metres of rock in this damp place seem slippery and treacherous to me.
). At the end of the route, a pile of logs being watered made the trail impassable (muddy +++ and rain gear required!!). Otherwise, a very nice hike.
