The Trémouille Forest

As you pass a beech or spruce tree over a hundred years old, you may be lucky enough to spot wild boar, roe deer or other large animals. Discretion is essential.

Description of the walk

Starting point at the hamlet of La Vidal: follow the road towards Le Coudert for 200 m to reach the starting point, located 50 m past the television relay station. Park in the lay-by on the right-hand side of the road.

(S/E) Cross the road and, at the Fork in the road, turn left and continue uphill along the stony track, which narrows before rejoining the road.

(1) Follow the road to the right and head for the hamlet of Le Vialard (with its beautiful cross).

(2) Leave the tarmac road at a wide bend, turning right onto a wide, motorable track.

(3) At the fork in the road, continue straight on along the main track until you come out onto the D622.

(4) Turn right to reach the hamlet of Champredonde via the road; continue for about 200 m, then turn onto the forest track on the left.

(5) When you reach the three-way junction, the route veers right onto a small forest path which, 200 m further on, runs alongside a beautiful peat bog. Return to the tarmac road at the houses in Le Bonzou and carry on straight ahead until you reach the D622. Turn left for about fifty metres, then turn right towards the hamlet of Le Coudert.

(6) Continue straight on along the road towards Le Charnet: 100 m on, there’s a stunning view of the Sancy massif.

(7) As you catch sight of the houses at Le Charnet, leave the road and turn left onto a track suitable for vehicles, which leads directly back to the starting point (S/E).

It would be a good idea to park a car just before Trémouille to mark the car park location
A easy route through the woods. A bit tedious towards the end as there’s a lot of walking downhill on gravel.
A very pleasant walk nonetheless, with plenty of shade in the woods and a few small Cantal hamlets

A route with little scenic interest; the region offers other, more spectacular options. Fortunately, a few mushrooms brightened up the walk, which was not unpleasant overall.

A lovely, fairly easy walk. There’s a signpost at the start and yellow markings all along the route.
The woods are lovely in hot weather.

A lovely walk. Beautiful paths through the forest alternate with lush, unspoilt and picturesque countryside.

An interesting route, but nothing more. A lovely forest with some beautiful trees; the path was badly damaged by heavy rain.
The route is clearly marked in yellow; I followed it using the Visorando GPX track saved on my mobile.
