La Fayette in the Indre valley towards Reignac-sur-Indre

Starting from Reignac-sur-Indre or Azay-sur-Indre, this loop offers a beautiful variety of landscapes and lovely heritage surprises. Between the two villages, each dominated by a castle, you will walk through the green valley where the Indre flows, cross a forest where a majestic tree awaits you and stroll across the agricultural plateau.

Description of the walk

Two possible starting points: car park behind the Salle des Trois Abeilles in Reignac (30 Rue des Sabotiers) or Aire de la Confluence in Azay (the points of passage correspond to the chronological order of departure from Reignac-sur-Indre).
Parking: car parks near the departure points.

Signposting: Yellow.

(S/E) Head towards the river and follow it to the right until you reach the bridge.

(1) Cross the river on the bridge, then turn left after the motorhome area. Continue along the path and go up to the right to follow the castle grounds.

(2) Follow the path to the road. Turn right onto the road, then right again at the end. When you reach the RD58, turn left, then right to reach the cemetery.

(3) Follow the cemetery wall on your left, then behind it, enter the Reignac woods. Continue along this path until you reach the intersection with a large forest lane.

(4) Turn right onto the lane. At the end of the lane, continue to the right and follow the path alongside the Étang de Toisé. Continue to the end.

(5) Turn left onto the road towards Les Pains Bénits.

(6) Take the road on the right at the three-way junction, then immediately turn right onto the path. Continue until you reach the intersection with the Route de la Follaine. There, turn right and continue straight ahead to cross the Indre.

(7) Reach the village. At the crossroads, turn left onto the road to the Indre Valley towards Chambourg. Turn right onto Rue des Sources, then left onto Route du Château. At the intersection after the castle, turn right and you will reach the three-way junction.

(8) Keep left on the road through the fields, then turn right onto the first path.

(9) Continue through the fields, take the first path on the left and then turn right at the crossroads. Follow this winding path, which turns to the right and comes to a road.

(10) Cross it, continue straight ahead and finally turn onto the first road on the left to return to Reignac via Rue des Myosotis.

(11) Follow it to the end, then turn right onto Rue du Jonceray. Cross over to the street opposite, heading towards Bléré, to reach the bridge.

(1) Turn left before the bridge to return to your starting point (S/E).

Worth a visit

La Cyclo-Bohème (formerly Indre à Vélo).
For a change of pace, swap your walking boots for a bike! The Cyclo-Bohème cycle route passes through Reignac-sur-Indre and Azay-sur-Indre. Along the river, from Bréhémont to the source of the Indre in Berry, the fully signposted cycle route allows you to discover the landscapes of this valley and the many châteaux that dot it.

Chédigny, Remarkable Garden.
Not far from Azay-sur-Indre, you can discover the village of Chédigny, listed as a Remarkable Garden, with over 1,000 rose bushes planted in the streets.
