The Croix des 7 frères from Agy

A lovely route starting from the Agy plateau, through mountain pastures and forests, with views of the Giffre mountains on one side and the Aravis on the other.

Description of the walk

Start: Car park at the Nordic ski resort in Agy.

(S/E) Follow the forest road towards Fimaloz and L’Artoche.

(1) Turn right at the first junction and stay on the main path until you reach Fimaloz. Go round the houses on the left, then rejoin the path, which becomes clearly visible again. Pass L’Artoche, then turn right twice to reach a wide path.

(2) Follow it to the right towards Mottal and then stay on the correct path to the left.
At the next junction, turn right onto the path towards the Igloo.

(3) At the junction, turn right towards the Croix des 7 Frères (another beautiful viewpoint) to reach the highest point of the hike.

(4) Head down to the right along the path towards Les Tronchets. After 800m, you’ll come to a forest track; take it to the left towards Praz Rôti. At the next junction, continue straight on towards Les Grangettes. Ignore a track on the right and follow the road that leads to the centre of the village of Les Carroz. Pass the police station and then turn right to join the D106.

(5) Cross the road and take the Route du Val Renand opposite.
Then follow the path that runs alongside the D106 towards Le Lays. Cross the road at the hamlet of Le Lays, continue straight on along Chemin du Lay, then turn right to begin the climb via Le Toral, following a narrow path that crosses several small streams and leads to Les Granges.

(6) Continue the climb via La Combe, then turn right towards La Naz and Les Mouilles, following the signs for Agy.
Return to the forest road taken on the way out and follow it to the left.

(2) At the crossroads, continue straight on to reach another junction taken on the way there (1) then head back towards the Agy car park (S/E)..

Notes

A hike with no particular difficulty; signposts are very common throughout.
The climb between Le Toral and Les Mouilles includes narrow sections that can be slippery in wet weather: therefore best avoided in bad weather.
You can stock up on supplies as you pass through the village of Les Carroz.

A beautiful walk from the Agy plateau to the Croix des 7 Frères.
Wide path with a slightly stony climb, but no particular difficulty.
Excellent views at the Croix des 7 Frères.

We completed the entire route.
The section through Agy is very beautiful. Heading down to Carroz seemed a bit less sensible to us (as you have to climb back up afterwards, so that part is less interesting :-). The whole route is on wide paths; a good portion would be accessible by mountain bike (for experienced riders).
It’s also a good starting point for creating variations.
The staff at the Auberge by the Agy car park are very friendly
Thank you very much for this post, which enabled us to enjoy this lovely walk.

I set off from Agy
A lovely walk with beautiful colours for late October, in lovely sunshine and warm weather.
Well worth doing again.
Plenty of alternative routes to take to get off the main mountain road.

Hello hikers,
I set off from Les Carroz, a superb climb up to the Agy plateau through some very peaceful hamlets. Once on the Agy plateau, I took some grassy paths a little lower down than planned: the route described follows the cross-country ski trail, which is a road made of crushed stone – not ‘wild’ enough for my liking.
A lovely hiking idea that I adapted using the local IGN map.

Hello to all hikers,
I only did a round trip from Agy to the Croix des 7 Frères (about 3½ hours)
It’s very easy, along a wide forest path with little elevation gain.
The scenery is superb, especially as on this Sunday, 9 April 2017, with glorious summer weather, there was still snow and a few skiers in Morillon-Samoens, but as for me, I was in shorts and a T-shirt!
